Over the weekend I saw Moonlight. It is nominated for six Golden Globe Awards and will probably get several Academy Award nominations as well.  Here's the summary from

Last week I saw Hacksaw Ridge and I was blown (no pun intended) away! Mel Gibson is back  in action with this fantastic movie.  This is an incredible true story about a WWII American Army Medic who was considered a 'conscientious objector.' What that means is, he claims the right to refuse to perform military service on the grounds of his religious beliefs.

2017 Golden Globe Nominations


This is my most favorite time of year, besides Christmas that is. The Golden Globe nominations came out about a week ago and I'm already crossing movies off of my list.  There will be quite a few movie reviews coming your way over the next few weeks.

So far I have seen Moonlight, Hacksaw Ridge, Zootopia, The Lobster, and Deadpool.  I've really enjoyed all of them. The Lobster was weird though; not what I thought it was going to be. I'm going to see Manchester by the Sea on Thursday afternoon since I have the day off.  I plan on renting Hell or High Water and Florence Foster Jenkins from Red Box.

Happy Friday! It's Almost Christmas!

Happy Friday everyone! Can you believe that next weekend is Christmas? Goodness gracious! Before we know it, 2017 will be here (in 15 days actually). I hope you had a fabulous week. Here are some wonderful highlights from mine.

{one} A Christmas Story
On Saturday morning Grandin Theater was showing A Christmas Story for free to the public.  A friend and I went to see it and had a fantastic time!  It was so great seeing it on the big screen. The theater was packed full of people with their children and families. I hope they play it next year too. I would love to make this a new tradition!

{two} Office Gifts
I definitely work with some lovely people. Every Christmas little elves start dropping off presents in everyone's offices. This year my coworker (partner in crime really) gave me a cute little diet coke ornament. Another coworker presented us with beautiful ornaments and another 'elf' gave out coffee cups with fuzzy socks and a Mary Kay gift certificate. Love it!

{three} Irving Berlin's White Christmas
I went to see White Christmas at our local regional theater, Mill Mountain Theater, this week. The talent was fantastic! My favorite musical number from the movie is 'Snow' and it's even on my Spotify Christmas playlist. It was cute they way the musical does it with all the train passengers.

{four} Dinner with My Person
Last night my dear friend, Steph, and I have dinner.  We went to Carrabba's, ate a lot of bread :) and exchanged Christmas gifts.  Steph got me a kitty cat tea infuser and loose leaf tea. My 'part 3' hadn't arrived in the mail yet, but it's a Harry Potter tea mug that says "Accio Tea."  I love this girl! We've been friends since high school and will be friends for a long time to come.

{five} Christmas Cards
I love send and receiving Christmas cards!  It's the perfect way to share what's been going on over the year and also pictures of you and your loved ones. This year was a picture of me and the kitties.  I received a few as well and put them on my refrigerator.

Thank God It's Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week.  I'll just get right to it and share with you some highlights from my week!

{one} A Simple Gift
My 'star daughter,' Charlotte, was in a play at one of our local theaters. A Simple Gift was being put up and Charlotte was the lead! She was absolutely fantastic! Charlotte is so talented and only 14 years old! Can you believe it!!!!! I loved seeing her in this show. I even got a little teary-eyed at curtain call! I'm so glad Starcropolis brought us together!

{two} Holiday Open House
My work's Holiday Open House was this week. It was a lot of fun! The mascots from the Salem Red Sox baseball team and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs came and joined in on the fun and 2016's Miss Virginia, Michaela Sigmon, was there as well.  My dad is a partner with my organization and was in attendance. We took a father-daughter photo. Doesn't he look nice!

{three} The 12 Plays of Christmas
I'm stage managing a play right now with a new theater company called "Page to Stage Theatre." This is their third production, just in time for Christmas! This week has been 'tech' week where we set the lighting and sound to the show. It's also the week where the actors are in costume and makeup and we do full runs of the show. It's definitely been a learning experience and one that I'm immensely grateful for! The shows are wonderful and our actors are fantastic! 

{four} St. Nicholas Day
Ever since I was little we celebrated St. Nicholas Day. You put your shoes out on the night of December 5th and then the next morning you wake to find your shoes full of toys and candy!  Well, St. Nicholas assigned two little elves, Pixie & Trixie, to my and my brother a long time ago.  They still come and visit us!

{five} The 21 Day Fix
I started the 21 day fix on Sunday and it's been a looooooooooong week! With my regular job and then going straight to tech rehearsals for 12 Plays it's been tricky! I haven't been the perfect example this week. I'm not giving up though. I'm going to catch up on my workouts and keep eating right.

Holiday Decorations

Happy holidays! Are you one of those people, like me, who has had their decorations up since before Thanksgiving? I'll admit, I put mine up the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  I don't have a whole lot up this year. I'm moving in January and I didn't want to have to repack a lot of decorations. With the cats, I decided not to put up a Christmas tree. Check out what I did do ~

I love the colored balls I got at Target last year. They are so bright and colorful and really add a pop to the room. I'm really surprised the cats haven't knocked them over and played with them.

If you didn't know, I have a thing for snowmen :) They are just so cute! I have two dancing Hallmark snowmen on my short book case and then two more on each side of my TV cabinet. Oh, and another one on a shelf. I also have a snowman stocking holder... I just really like snowmen!

Since I didn't put up a tree somewhere I was desperate to find a place for my twinkle lights. I decided to put them across the top of my living room window. They are so pretty at night and give off just enough light.

I went to Michaels on black Friday. They were having an amazing sale! I found the rustic Happy Holidays sign there and it looks so nice with my twinkle lights.

Every year I set up my Fontanini Nativity Set. I love this!

I also decorated my office a teenie-tiny bit with the cutest little Holy Family you ever did see! I saw it at Lifeway Christian Store (love that place!) and couldn't pass it up. They are so cute! They sit right on my desk in front of my computer screen so I can see them every day!

Getting Fit with the 21 Day Fix

The 21 Day Fix set was purchased back in August. I gave it a go, but only lasted 4 days.  At the time I was still traveling a lot for work and it was just me doing the Fix. I was also not in a good state of mind, emotionally, with my own food issues to really be able to set myself up for success.

A girlfriend of mine from college is a Beachbody coach now.  She had seen some of my posts and knew that I had the Shakeology, but wondered if I did the DVD workouts and used the containers.  I told her I did and then she asked if I'd be interested in joining her challenge Ending the Year Healthy & Happy on Facebook.  I thought, why not?!  This time around I would have a coach that I have a personal relationship with. I also have a friend (K) that's local - actually lives in my apartment complex - that was interested in doing it too.  I felt like with a better support system (meaning other people doing it) that I would have better success this time.

On Saturday morning I weighed and then K came over and we took our before measurements and before pictures. These are good to help notice your progress at the end. Then we feasted on pancakes.  What? It's our 'last day' of food freedom! Haha!  I went grocery shopping and did some food prep on Saturday - cooked a few chicken breasts.

I officially started the 21 Day Fix on Sunday (12/4/16).  I started the morning off with my Total Body Cardio DVD work out and had a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs and a banana.  I had my chocolate shake as a morning snack. Lunch was a yummy salad and dinner was a wonderful meal of tilapia, quinoa with sauteed red/green pepper and onions.  This week will be mostly the same when it comes to meals. My workouts Monday-Friday this week will be late night after rehearsal.

Something that is super helpful to me this time around is the 21 Day Fix app for my phone. It helps you keep track of all of the containers, your water intake, and your workouts. I'm loving the app! I'm also keeping track of what I'm eating. That way I know if something isn't enough or if I'm eating too much of something. You can also input your measurements and it does all the calculations for you!

Even though I'm only on day 2, I feel really good about this. Some people think I'm crazy for doing this time of year with the holidays and all the yummy treats that pop up everywhere.  I just have to stay motivated and honest with myself.

Today's Gift: Apologies

Sometimes, we act in a manner with which we are less than comfortable. That's human. That's why we have the words: "I'm sorry." They heal and bridge the gap. But we don't have to say, "I'm sorry" if we didn't do anything wrong. A sense of shame can keep us apologizing for everything we do, every word we say, for being alive and being who we are.

We don't have to apologize for taking care of ourselves, dealing with feelings, seeking boundaries, having fun, or getting healthy.

We never have to change our course, if it is in our best interest, but sometimes a general apology acknowledges other feelings and can be useful when the issues of a circumstance or relationship are not clear. We might say, "I'm sorry for the fuss we had. I'm sorry if what I needed to do to take care of myself hurt you; it was not intended that way."

Once we make an apology, we don't have to keep repeating it. If someone wants to keep on extricating an apology from us for the same incident, that is the person's issue, and we don't have to get hooked.

We can learn to take our apologies seriously and not hand them out when they're not valid. When we feel good about ourselves, we know when it's time to say we're sorry and when it's not.

Today, I will try to be clear and healthy in my apologies, taking responsibility for my actions and nobody else's. God, help me figure out what I need to apologize for and what is not my responsibility.

Happy Friday!

Two happy days in a row! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Friday! How was your Thanksgiving? I hope it was fabulous and that you are still full. Did you eat some good food?  I hope you had a wonderful week. Here are some great highlights from my week.

I went this week to get it touched up a bit. I've been wanting the word 'faith' tattooed for a little while now and at the beginning of October I finally bit the bullet and got it done. I absolutely love it!

A really long holiday weekend
I took Wednesday off to clean and decorate my apartment. I ended up cleaning on Saturday and then decorating on Tuesday night while I watched Dancing with the Stars Finale. I used Wednesday to have some 'Erica' time. I slept in, went to the gym with a girlfriend, got my hair done...and took 2 naps! It was a wonderful day.

On Thanksgiving morning my parents and I participated in the annual Drumstick Dash 5K (move your feet so others can eat). All proceeds benefit the Rescue Mission here in our home town. This was the first year I registered as a runner. My parents walked and I walk/jogged. I probably did about 50/50 and finished in 44 minutes. That's pretty good for me! After the race we went to Starbucks and got our hot beverages and a paper to check out all the ads for Black Friday.

FOOD!...I mean, Family Time!
This year I cooked! I made cornish hens, roasted carrots, and crescent rolls. Mom and dad brought balsamic roasted sweet potatoes and brussell sprouts and a salad. I also made oven-friend apple pies. Everything was so delicious! I had to put the kitties on the porch so that I could set the table. You can see little Cosima in the door window.  Helena kept trying to get on the table. Dad was so tuckered out that he took a little cat nap before we went to the movie.

After dinner we went to see the newest movie in the Harry Potter franchise. It was AMAZING!!!! I can't wait for the rest of the 'series' to come out. I'm not going to say anything about the movie in fear of spoilers, but IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!

7 Day Work Out Plan

If you've liked my new Facebook page, Being FitTastic, then you've already seen the 7 Day Work Out Plan that I put together.  I have stated before that I am not a nutritionist, dietitian or fitness instructor. I am by no means a pro! I've had private training sessions with trainers at gyms I've belonged too. I read tons of magazines and blogs. I just happen to know what works for me. Over the years I have learned what I can manage as well.

The 7 Day Work Out Plan that I put together I have tried and I really like it. It's a simple work out, but it's great! I definitely work up a sweat. You can absolutely modify it to work for you. I personally like the treadmill for walking/jogging, but I know some people (my mom) love the bike. Sometimes I mix up the cardio machines for my 30 minutes of cardio. When it comes to the Leg and Arm exercises make sure to do what works best for you. Maybe 20 reps is too much to start off with. I like to break them down in sets and will likely do 2 sets of 10. For the '20 Cross Punch with Weights' I need to start off with 3lb weights and build up. You might be able to start with heavier weights.

It's all about YOU and where you feel comfortable. Give it a shot and let me know what you think!

Being FitTastic Daily Tracker

If you're like me, then you like to keep track of EVERYTHING! I especially try to keep track of my food and exercise. It helps me figure out what works and what doesn't.  I know that there are TONS of Daily Trackers out there for you to find and download. I created a super simple one for you to use. I haven't been keeping track of any it lately, so I'm hoping the tracker I created will help.

The Being FitTastic Daily Tracker will help you track your breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and your gym sessions.  There's also spots at the top to date and mark your weight. I weigh about once a week (sometimes more), but I have friends that weigh daily. I don't recommend that, because your weight can fluctuate based on anything!  I've always read (and been told) to weigh the same day and same time every week. Oh, and always in the nude :)

I hope you like the tracker. I've got tons of ideas on things to make for us to all enjoy and use to get (and stay) fit and healthy! Let me know what you think!

Being FitTastic

Last week I had a sudden hit of inspiration!

I had some girlfriends over a couple of Saturdays ago.  We enjoyed pasta, bread, chex mix, and ice cream together. Oh, and brownie bites!  After dinner we were all chatting about how we should 'get fit and healthy' together. You know how I'm always trying to eat better and work out. I'm always doing some sort of diet program whether it's the Whole30, the 21 Day Fix, or some Pinterest plan.

I was sitting on the couch Wednesday night last week and decided to start a Facebook Page called Being FitTastic. My hope is to connect with all of my friends and so many more, so that we can help motivate each other to eat healthy and to stay fit.

I am in no way a dietitian or a fitness coach. I am a big fan of the Whole30 and have tried the 21 Day Fix. With the holidays upon us I think we could all use the motivation.  Come follow along and like the Being FitTastic Facebook Page and let's work together!

Currently I'm . . .

I haven't published a person post in quite a while, so I thought I would do a Currently post. This is a more detailed Currently that I found and really liked it. Check out what I'm currently up to and then tell me all about what you're currently up to! 

Reading… I was reading around 4 books recently. In addition to those I was trying to do 2 Bible studies! I decided to HALT and reevaluate!  I am now doing 1 Bible Study and reading The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. I've always wanted to read The Chronicles of Narnia, so I finally bought the set and am starting at the beginning!

Watching… Game 6 of the World Series. The Cubs are currently leading 7-2 against the Indians. I'm cheering for the Chicago Cubs! I lived in Chicago when I was little, so of course I'm going to cheer for them.  My parents are from Ohio and my dad is cheering for 'The Tribe,' but my mom is cheering for the Cubs.  There's a little bit of tension in their house right now!

Trying… To stay off of Diet Coke. I was sick most of last week and didn't have Diet Coke for 5 days.  That's a long time to go w/o for someone who is used to drinking three 20oz bottles a day.  Today (Tuesday 11/1/16) was the first day I drank a lot of soda again. I really do like water a lot better. 

Cooking… Nothing at the moment, but for dinner Wednesday night I'm baking some chicken with a sweet potato and steaming some broccoli. Yummy!

Eating… I had pizza for dinner. I met a friend for dinner and we went to Benny Marconi's in Downtown. Giant slices!

Drinking… I just finished my evening cup of tea. I love my Trader Joe's Decaf Green Tea.

Texting… I have a constant group text going between myself and two other girlfriends. We say 'good morning' to each other each day and keep one another update on our goings on. I love them to death and am so thankful for their friendship!

Pinning… Mostly cat pictures...Pinterest seems to find a lot of those for me. Also makeup tutorials lately. 

Tweeting… Mandy Hale was doing a Q&A tonight about how she's on the Bumble dating app.  I follow her on Twitter and get notifications whenever she tweets.  I've been following along with her Q&A tonight and it was more interesting than I thought it might be.

Going… To bed soon! It's almost 11pm and waaaaay past my bedtime. Goooo Cubs!

Loving… My babies! Cosima and Helena are the best little kitties a girl could ask for. Our 1 year anniversary is coming up on December 1st. Yay for us!

Hating… All the politics right now. Thank the Lord that Election Day is next week.  

Thinking… About going to bed. It's after 11pm now. It's top of the 8th inning and the Chicago Cubs are still up 7-2 against the Cleveland Indians. 

Feeling… Really really good! I'm in a really good place in my life right now. My job is great, I am financially able to support myself, I have amazing friends and family around me... I really couldn't ask for anything more right now!

Hoping (for)… A great photo shoot on Saturday! I'm in the process of writing an article for Holl & Lane Magazine and with the article I'm to submit 2-3 photos.  I don't really have any updated photos that are not selfies I've taken myself, so I'm having a photo session with a friend of mine. He did my headshots back in 2010 and still to this day they are the best headshots I've had taken. It'll be fun!

Listening (to)… I'm slightly obsessed with Carrie Underwood's newest album Storyteller right now. I saw her in concert in September and I've been listening to her non-stop. 

Celebrating… 3 years of being sober on November 11th! I can't believe it's been three years already! It's been an amazing three years and I couldn't be more grateful for where I am in my life right now.

Thanking… Everyone that came to see the theatre production I was recently in. A big Thank You to Page to Stage Theatre Company for casting me in their amazing show! Twilight Gallery was so much fun to work on. It really got me back into the full swing of acting again. It challenged me and made me a stronger actress. 

Considering… Getting on a dating app. I keep toying with the idea. I download Bumble and delete over and over again. 

Starting… To get excited about moving in January! Yes, January - the dead of winter. I'm moving from my apartment complex to a beautiful condo in a fantastic neighborhood! I'm moving up in the world :)

Finishing… Up the year! Can you believe it's already November? Goodness gracious! I haven't been blogging very consistently this year, so I'm going to do the Looking Back at... post that I've done the last couple of years.
