Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! How was everyone's week? Are you ready for Halloween??? I wasn't too excited about it, but yesterday I had an epiphany for a costume and am super excited!!!!!!!!!  Anyways, let's get on with it, shall we?

I participated in Mailbox Surprise Swap for the month of September (yes, I'm a little late in posting) and I was paired up with Shann. Shann and I were both crazy busy and were delayed a bit. We finally got our packages out to each other.  She sent me a lovely box of goodies. Note cards with an E on them, an E stamp, and a ladybug card on an E stand.  She also sent me a chalk board with pink and purple chalk.  She also sent me a cute little cosmetic bag with some goodies. Thank you Shann so much! I love it all :)

Last Saturday I went up to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Hokies football game. My work had a booth in Hokie Village and we were passing out foam fingers.  It was so much fun seeing everyone that came out for the game.  The Virginia Tech Marching Band came through Hokie Village with the cheerleaders and dancers. So many current students and alumni were there as well. Did I mention it was VT's Homecoming?  During half time they announced the homecoming court.  A Gamma Phi Beta was crown homecoming queen. I couldn't be prouder of a fellow sister :)

During the game I sat with some of my friends that I've met through Junior League. They are awesome ladies and I'm loving every minute of my time with the League.

I've been getting a little better with my food since falling off my food wagon. I chopped up some bell peppers so that they are ready to go in the morning for a yummy omelette. I also made some pork sausage patties for the week and they are so delicious! Check out the guacamole stuffed chicken. It was fantastic. I found the recipe on Pinterest and it is super easy to make. I made one with cheese and bacon stuffed in it for my friend. I didn't try it, but he said it was quite yummy.

Just in time for Halloween I've gotten hooked on season four of American Horror Story: Freak Show. It is crazy!

Meet Cassie!

Happy Monday everyone! Welcome to another week...the last week of October! Can you believe that November is practically here?  Are you ready for Halloween?  Oh goodness me :-)  To get your Monday Moving I have a fabulous lady to introduce you to.

 photo Cassie 02_zps7azirexs.jpg

For the month of October I participated in being a Solidarity Sister. Susannah at Simple Moments Stick put this all together and it is fantastic! I spent the last few weeks getting to know Cassie from Always A Blogsmaid.  Cassie and I could not have been more perfectly paired. We are in very similar places in our lives and got along so well.  Here's a fun little interview to help get you and Cassie acquainted. Make sure to check out her blog!

You know how much I love movies, so what is YOUR favorite movie of all time and why?
My favorite movie of all time is Cruel Intentions.  I just love everything about it - great actors, the wit/sarcasm, and an even greater soundtrack.  It was the first movie I ever bought on dvd; mostly because I couldn't find it on VHS anywhere.

How did you get into blogging and what do you love most about it?
On labor day four years ago, I had my first weekend at the lake with friends.  One of the friends, Kathleen, was telling me how she had a blog and I was instantly curious.  I spent an unhealthy amount of time on Xanga and MySpace back then, so a blog wasn't a stretch for me.  When I got home from the lake, I signed up on blogger.com and started writing down life experiences.

What I love most about blogging is the community.  I love being able type in a URL and immediately connect with another blogger.  I have met two girls so far in real life that I call friends, Lauren & Amy.  I wouldn't have met them without this blog and for that, I'm forever grateful.  My goal is to meet all my blogging friends, so you may be next! :)

Looking back on your life, what are you most proud of?
Almost everyone you know these days has gone to college.  Well, I was the first one in my family to graduate from community college and a university.  If I had to pick one thing to be most proud of?  Becoming a Hinds Hi-Stepper.  Attending Hinds changed my life for the better, but becoming a part of a sisterhood that continues to re-connect each year is something I'll always be proud of.

Are you doing what you love? If not, what would you rather be doing?
I can't say that I am doing what I love.  If I'm being honest, I'm doing what pays the bills right now (as long as I never move out).  I am constantly asking myself "what do I want to do?" and I can't ever give a straight answer.  I have been told plenty of times that I should be a party planner or a writer, so that's something to work towards.

What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re not working?
Some of my favorite things to do are hang out with my friends, travel, go to the movies, lay on the beach and read a book, watch Netflix, plan celebrations for friends, buy gifts for others, get manicures/pedicures, hold babies, and send snail mail to friends when they least expect it.
 photo Cassie 01_zpsxflyyfhn.jpg
Favorite food and beverage?
Hamburger and French fries - and a cold, Dr. Pepper.

What are some of your goals?
Short term goals include paying off my car & student loans.  Once that's done, save money to buy a house.  Grow my blog by being more consistent with posting.  And of course the given ones: be healthier, lose weight, etc.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Since I'll be 33 then, I would hope that house would be purchased and sharing it with someone I love, hopefully married.  Maybe a child (if that's in God's plan for me).

What do you wish you had more time to do?
I wish I had more time to just travel instead of sitting in a cubicle long enough to get some personal leave.  I wish I had more time to enjoy the day to day instead of wondering if I have enough money/living paycheck to paycheck.  I wish I had more time to just be, instead of be-ing somewhere or someone.

If you could go anywhere in the world for 30 days, where would you go and why?
ITALY.  I spent a few days of my sophomore year in college in Rome and Florence, Italy.  I would love to be able to go back and visit Positiano? - the beach, the culture.  30 days may not even be enough to soak in all the Italian culture has to offer.

If you had $10,000 what would you do with it?
The first thing I would do is pay off all my student loans so that no longer is holding me back with a minimum payment every month.  With the $4,000 left over, I would put part of it in savings and I would buy a plane ticket to California and visit friends.

Hey y'all!  My name is Cassie and I write a lifestyle blog over at Always, A Blogsmaid.  I started my blog in 2011, a year after graduating college, to document my post-grad life.  I spend my weekdays in a cubicle and spend my weekends traveling to visit friends.  For about 18 months, I was holding a lot of bouquets, but now I hold a lot of babies.  I am single, living at home with my parents and paying off student loans. If bridesmaid stories, baby holding, and weekend travels interest you, please stop by my blog anytime!  If you want to keep up with with my random, post-college days, you can find/contact me here:

High Five For Friday

Happy Friday!!!!!  Another week has gone by and the weekend is here!  I hope you all had a fabulous week and that your weekend is stacked with awesome stuff or chill stuff.  I know that my weekend has a little bit of both worked in.

Saturday I went to the mall and found myself a little something at Hot Topic.  You know how much I love Orphan Black.  Hot Topic has a line just for the show - t-shirts, accessories, fun stuff.  Well, on clearance I found this t-shirt. I love it!!!!!!!!

On Saturday I helped celebrate this fabulous woman's birthday. She's my closest friend and my person. Love you lady!

On Sunday my dear friend from NOVA was in town. We went to breakfast and caught up on our lives :) I gave her a quick driving tour of Roanoke. It was great to see her! xoxo

Wednesday, October 21, 2015 was Back to the Future Day. Valley View Grande was showing a Back to the Future marathon. The first one is totally my favorite, because I wish I could go back in time to the 1950's.  It was so cool when the below shot came on the screen in Back to the Future Part II and everyone cheered! So.Much.Fun!

On Thursday I went up to Smith Mountain Lake to visit some of our hotel partners. I hadn't been up to visit a few of the properties before and I'm so glad that I did. It is so beautiful up there. It really made me want to move to the country and get a lake house.

Cozy Fall Essentials

 photo cozy fall essentials_zpsrq9etarh.jpg

This was the first weekend that really felt like fall. The air was crisp and cool with the sun shining!  I was lucky enough to be outside both Saturday and Sunday.  When the weather is like this I love cuddling up inside in the evening. I get on my nice comfy couch and curl up in a blanket. Sometimes I'll put a movie on or just read a book.  I'll definitely light a candle to set the cozy mood. I love lavender, but around fall and winter and like to have something more season.  Here are some ideas to help you get cozy this fall . . .

The bedding brand Parachute has some amazing things to fill your home with.  Let's start with the bedroom first, shall we?  This photo makes me want to curl up in bed! This Luxury Sateen Duvet Cover (check it out HERE) comes in some beautiful neutral tones. I love this navy set.
 photo Sateen Duvet Cover_zpsolkcog5k.jpg

This Linen Duvet Cover Set (check it out HERE) makes me want to have a pillow fight or build a pillow fort! In my pajamas, of course!
 photo Linen Duvet Cover Set_zpspzwhhjds.jpg
On the weekend when I crawl out of bed, only to relocate to the couch, the first thing I do is grab my slippers. I recently found out I have plantar fasciitis. Total bummer! Luckily for me, Fleet Feet sells amazing products with great arch support. These slippers are made by Vionic and are super comfy! My feet stay warm and supported (check them out HERE).

I love candles, so I'll light the lavender or whatever I have on hand that is seasonal.  Parachute has a lavender and a fireside sent. Ahhh-mazing (HERE)!

I can't forget the key ingredient to a cozy fall day - the blanket!  Parachute has cashmere throws that are so beautiful (HERE)! My favorite is the Denim and Pebble Gray cashmere throw. It would fit perfectly with the color scheme I have going on in my living room.

I Have Commitment Issues

 photo Title Post_zpsiavzj2kf.jpg
As it turns out, I have commitment issues of my own.  Not in the way that you may think, however. Instead of fearing to commit, I am committing too much! Who would have thought?!  I like to commit myself to challenges - a health/fitness challenge (like the Whole30), a reading challenge, a spending freeze (yeah...nuff said), watching less TV challenge, or even committing myself to social activities. I am committing myself to too much!  In all of these commitments, where is the time for me?  For some reason I feel apt to commit myself to challenges? Why? I don't know why. My mentor doesn't know why either, but she thinks I should stop.

It was suggested that perhaps the reason I am making all these 'commitments' is my way of giving myself something to focus on instead of truly focusing on myself. At least that's how I understood it :)  It was also suggested that I take a break from dating. Didn't I just join Match? Haha! But seriously, that's just another thing that I'm putting my focus on instead of focusing on me. I am finding myself falling back into old patterns and habits. No bueno!

Here's what I'm thinking . . .

Instead of going on a money freeze, I should start to save money. Just $10 from each paycheck to start. So, I am going to get myself a cute little piggy bank and start putting money in it. I can use it as a treat for myself down the road.

Instead of repeatedly saying I'm going to do the Whole30 again, I will make healthy choices. There are definitely things that are not Whole30 compliant that I want to be able to eat. The hummus in my fridge being one of those things.  I know what's good for me and what's not. I know what my body prefers and what it doesn't. When I wake up with swollen fingers I know it's because I've been eating too many carbs. When I wake up with sinus allergies, it's because I've been eating dairy. Feeling sluggish?...Sugar! I just need to make conscious healthy choices.
 photo Lifestyle Change 03_zpsvpcjs4hr.jpg

Instead of dating for right now, just focus on Erica. My mentor said that I should be able to sit in the quiet and feel comfortable in it. When I can sit comfortably in the quiet, then I can reevaluate dating. I need to love me, all of me, and be comfortable with me. While dating, I have found myself wavering on some things (religious beliefs and the want to have children as examples) that I should not be wavering on. My mentor suggested that I make a list of what sanity in a relationship means to me.  Once I've created this list, then I need to stick to it, no matter what!  For some reason I feel as though I'm in a rush to "complete" my life. Find a man, get married, have babies, and so on and so forth. That's not something I should be rushing or settling on.

I guess you could say I'm in a place in my life where I feel, for lack of a better word, incomplete. I thought I'd be somewhere else - as in married with kids by now.  Maybe I'm trying to fill that 'incompleteness' with challenges and goals and guys. After reading that last sentence I definitely have some self-work to do. It's a good thing I have the rest of my life to work on me :)

Has anyone out there experienced this?
I'd love to hear your thoughts and similar experiences!

High Five For Friday

I cannot begin to tell you how ecstatic I am that it's Friday. I'm not sure why, but I've felt a bit slumpy this week. I haven't been eating all that great lately (yes, that means carbs!), I've been spending a wee-bit too much money, and have I mentioned that dating is exhausting? Especially when...well, I'll get to that in a later blog post.

Here's a run down of some positivity that did come my way in the past seven days . . .

{one} This past weekend a meeting planner from North Carolina came to Roanoke to check it out. We showed her the town! It was a crazy busy fun weekend. We went to the Taubman Museum of Art for a tour of the facility and the galleries. On the third floor terrace you can see the Roanoke Landmarks - H&C Coffee Sign, Dr. Pepper Sign, and the Roanoke Star on top of Mill Mountain (it's itty bitty from here). I love the city I live in!
 photo Taubman Terrace_zpsqv199vpb.jpg

{two} We attended the Virginia Tech Hokies football game last Friday night. We were guests of the school's President! The seats in the President's Box were amazing! Thank the Lord we were in there, because it started to down pour! The Hokies beat NC State...everyone left happy.
 photo 10.09.15 08_zpst576uu60.jpg

{three} I saw The Martian on Saturday night and it was AMAZING! I highly recommend this movie. It is Matt Damon at his finest. I feel like it's been a little while since he's done a movie. The casting and cinematography were fantastic. If you get a chance to see it in the theaters, then do it!
 photo THE-MARTIAN-movie-poster2_zpsjwyapneo.jpg

{four} Since I worked over the weekend I was given a half day on Monday. I took complete advantage of the morning and got my butt down to the Greenway. It was so beautiful and the temperature was perfect.
 photo Greenway_zpsxekdbzbg.jpg

{five} On Tuesday the new Nicholas Sparks book, See Me, came out and I had to buy it immediately! The same day I saw on Twitter that Gretchen Rubin had released a Better Than Before: A Day-To-Day Journal. Of course I got that while I was at Barnes and Noble too! There were also a couple magazines I felt the need to get :)

High Five For Friday

Happy Friday!

It has been a heck of a week. Sooo much rain this weekend, but we made it through and the sunshine has returned...for now :)

{one} with all of the rain I needed a new umbrella. I got mine at Target for $14.99 and I love it! It's the perfect size for me and it's bright and colorful.
 photo Rain Gear_zps5gxgxnyw.jpg

{two} On Sunday mom and I went to the Berglund Center to see Miranda Lambert live in concert. She was great to see live. I lvoe going to a concert and the artist being able to step back from the mic, because the audience knows all of the lyrics.  The was the case with Automatic. It is probably my favorite ML song.
 photo Miranda Lambert_zpsm25re7h1.jpg

{three} It's been a crazy week with work. We have a client in town visiting and all of the shenanigans for that began last night. We took her to Carlos Brazilian Restaurant for dinner last night and then had a chocolate tasting with chocolatepaper. It was sooo yummy!  Tonight we are showing her around Roanoke and the different hotels and facilities we have to offer, then we are off to the Virginia Tech football game. We are in the President's box, so even if it rains, we will be all set!

{four} Mom, I found my comb! It was on the sidewalk in Grandin. Wait, that's not mine. That belongs to the giant in the sky!

{five} Have you watched Blood and Oil yet? If you haven't then you need to. I love it and am totally hooked! It's a total night soap, but I love it!

Tell me how your week was below! I'd love to hear from you.
I hope you have a fabulously fun weekend!

Saturday Rant: I Got Dumped

 photo on my own 03_zpswpmjym6i.jpg

Back in January I wrote a post titled I'm Single Because.... I talked about why I'm single, why I'd rather be single than settle, and some things I look for in a partner.  Since January I have dated two men at length. There were a few other guys I dated in between, but these two were more serious for me.  I met them both online (one on eHarmony and the other on Tinder).  They couldn't have been more different from each other.  eHarm and I were so alike it was almost like I was dating myself.  I didn't like dating myself (there were other things as well).  As much as I want my partner and I to be agreeable, I also want someone who's going to challenge me.  Tin was definitely the person to do that.  However, he didn't feel that we were the right fit after dating for five weeks (but who's counting).  Yes, I got dumped last weekend.  We weren't in an exclusive relationship, but I wasn't dating anyone else and I didn't want to. Stupid politics!

I always say that I don't regret any relationship I've been a part of.  Some of them sucked and were super shitty towards the end, but some of them were wonderful and just didn't work out for whatever reason.  It is so true that I always learn something from each relationship that I've been in. Whether it's good or bad, it shows me what I want for myself as well as what I want/need in a partner.

 photo frgo_zpssnljpjb5.jpg
It's very true what they say, You've got to kiss a lot of frogs before finding your prince.

When I'm dating someone I am still finding that there are thing I'm giving up or putting aside that I shouldn't.

Tin had a tricky schedule. He owned his own business and worked six days a week with pretty long hours. I really liked him and wanted to make sure that I got to see him, so sometimes we would hang out later in the evening during the week after he got out of work. I'm talking 9/9:30pm.  I'm used to being in bed reading by 9:30pm. With Tin not getting to my place until that time I found myself up until 11pm sometimes midnight. He is a night owl, so sometimes later. It's not a bad thing and of course I wanted to spend time with him, because he also worked on the weekends.  My point is, I wasn't remember what I needed.  I was making sure that I got to see him and therefore I was getting less sleep.  That led to not getting up on time in the morning. Not very much gym time and there were a few times I was late for work.

It's no one's fault but my own. There's this word I have a hard time saying...'no' haha!  All I had to say was, "hey, I'm getting ready for bed coz I want to get up and go to the gym." Or, "hey, I'm going to get up now, but feel free to stay in bed." Or the toughest one to say is, "why don't we just see each other later."

Another thing that was starting to bug me was that we weren't going out. We were just hanging out at my apartment. I'm all for couch time, but I should be courted! At one point I suggested we go out and get dinner and then do something fun, because I wanted to go on a date with the guy I was dating. Tin was all for it! Well, he dumped me the day before that date was supposed to happen. Coincidence?  Whatever happened to DATING?  There is so much 'hanging out' now that I think people forget how to date.  I will say one thing, though... I stuck to my gut about not having sex without a commitment. Go me!

 photo Lessons Learned_zpsowrwhsyk.jpg

Boundaries.  I need to remember this!  I need to remember what I need.  I need to be able to get up at 5am if I want to go to the gym or 6:15 if I'm not and not feel guilty about it.  I love to read before I go to bed, but I can't leave the guy sitting in the living room watching TV while I'm in my room reading. That's weird!

Dating is hard.  It's like Charlotte from Sex and the City always said, "I've been dating since I was 15 where is he?"  I got back on Tinder (saw Tin right away...swiped left on him this time) and I'm also on Match.  What will be will be.  What's for you will not pass you.  Those are sayings, right?  At least the second one is (it's on my Alex & Ani bracelet).

That's it for my Saturday rant. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

High Five For Friday

Happy Friday!

I hope you are having wonderful weather. It's just a bit wet here in Roanoke. With Hurricane Joaquin stopping by the east coast to say hi, we are in a flash flood warning! We are likely to experience flooding, power outages, and high winds.  It should be a fun weekend!

{one}  last weekend my parents came over for an Orphan Black Season 3 marathon. I had recently purchased season 3 on DVD. I'm a HUGE fan and I got mom into it as well.  We finished the first four episodes. Mom and dad were over until 11pm (that's late for them). Maybe this weekend we'll be able to get some more episodes in :)
 photo Orphan Black Marathon_zpsddxiusc3.jpg

{two} I started another round of the Whole30 yesterday, so on Tuesday I took myself to lunch at Jack Brown's.  They have some of the yummies and funnest hamburgers.  I got the Greg Brady with french fries.  You are seeing bbq potato chips and macaroni and cheese on the burger. It is so good!
 photo greg_zpsq0jd56ko.jpg

{three} On Wednesday there was a big event for a large international conference that's in town. As a sponsor, my work co-hosted a "Welcome To Roanoke" event.  We had tons of delicious vendors come out (including Jack Brown's). One of my favorites was Bubblecake Bake Shop. There were 1,000 tiny cupcakes. So yummy and cute!  We ended up bringing four boxes back to the office!
 photo Bubble Cake_zpscgnkpok8.jpg

{four}  Yesterday, October 1st, the third issue of Holl and Lane Magazine live online. I'm one of their regular contributors and handle the movie department :)  This issue's movies are highly quotable so make sure you go check them out!  "YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US!"
 photo 10 Quoatable Movies_zps1lqdoyhz.jpg

{five} In preparation of the hurricane effects I went to the grocery store right after work. It wasn't raining yet and I really didn't want to have to deal with getting groceries in the rain this weekend. Guess who I ran into at the store?  That's right, my momma! This is just one reason why I love being back home.
