This week's Write or Die Wednesday Promt is What Person, Place, Thing or Idea do you find Mysterious? I immediately knew what I wanted to write about: Reincarnation. Reincarnation, as defined by Wikipedia, is the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit, after biological death, can begin a new life in a new body. Back in September 2013 I wrote a post about how I think I used to be Marilyn Monroe (here) in a previous life. I still believe this or at least the idea of it.
The word reincarnation derives for the Latin, literally meaning entering the flesh again. The Greek equivalent of that is transmigration of the soul. As a Catholic, I'm not supposed to believe in reincarnation. Catholics are taught that Jesus is the divine incarnation. Some believe that Jesus and some prophets may incarnate again. Most Christians, however, believe that Jesus will come again in the Second Coming at the end of the world. This is not a reincarnation.
No one really knows where the idea of reincarnation came from. There are several thoughts on the idea, but nothing "proven." Do you remember the movie What Dreams May Come, starring Robin Williams? spoiler It's mostly about a man who dies in a car crash and searches for his wife in the afterlife. In the end they do find each other and then are reincarnated in hopes that they find each other again in life.
My father has always been a huge history buff. We all think he should have been a history professor at a fancy college somewhere. He has a fascination with the Holocaust. There are several books on the living room book shelves about that time period in the 1940's. Maybe my father was someone who did not survive in the Holocaust and then given a second chance at life, for whatever reason? You never know!
With me and Marilyn Monroe, let me break it down for you:
Having been Marilyn Monroe in my previous life I was able to learn from her experiences. I was able to take those experiences and turn them around for a better outcome. A better me.
Who knows what's real and what's not. People still argue about the existence of God and Jesus. It's all about faith and what you believe to be true.
What do you believe?
