Eye Brow Tutorial

I am not a beauty blogger by any means!  I don't experiment with makeup or hair products.  When I find something that works for me I stick to it.  There is one thing, however, that I'm obsessed with and that would be my eyebrows!  I get a lot of compliments on my eyebrows and considering how much I work on them, I am very proud of my art work.  They haven't always been this way, though.  I was born with some pretty big eyebrows!  When I was in my early teens my mom started helping me "groom" them.  At the time we used Nair.  It wasn't pretty, but at the time, I didn't know that!

The year before I discovered Anastasia

In 1998 my mom, me, and a friend of mine were going to see Everafter and we snuck into The Mask of Zorro, because we were a little early.  My mom pointed out Catherine Zeta Jones to me and said, "See, her eyebrows are different.  They aren't the same."  Ever since then, I have been absolutely obsessed with my eyebrows!  I went through years of over plucking, over trimming, and just over everything!  It wasn't until 2007 that I finally got a lesson in Eyebrow Maintenance.  The Anastasia Salon in Beverly Hills, California

I was working at a small boutique on Robertson Blvd and a coworker of mine told me about her.  Anastasia does all the stars' brows and is featured in magazines and on Oprah!  I had to get an appointment!  This was around March and in order for Anastasia herself to do my eyebrows I had to make an appointment pretty far in advance.  So, I decided that for my birthday that year I would treat myself to an $80 eyebrow waxing.  It wasn't just a waxing, it was an education!  She was amazing.  I had no idea how I was going to be able to do this on my own at home.  Luckily, you can buy the stencils at Sephora.  You can buy an entire kit at Sephora!  I have my own "kit" that I used to help me master my eyebrows over the years.  Below I show you what I use and how I do it.

1.  I call it an "EyeBrow Brush."  You can get it at any general store.
2.  A good pair of tweezers are very important.
3.  Anastasia Stencil; I'm a high arch.
4.  Shade pencil to color in your eyebrows.  The smallest size works best for me.
5.  A shadow that matches your brow color.  I use Covergirl Eye Enhancer's Sombra Realzadora.
6. Covergirl Clear Mascara to tame my curly brows.
7. Q-tips to touch up at the end.

This is my before.  You can see my "holy" arches from over plucking throughout the years.

The first step is to line up the stencil over your brow.

Then you want to take the brush, after putting it in your shadow, and just fill it in.

An extra step that I do sometimes is to take a concealer pencil and draw a line under the brow.  This helps to define it a bit more.

Oops! Sometimes it gets a bit messy! :)

After I apply the liner and mascara I sometimes get spots on my eyelids.  This is where the q-tips come into play.  Just wet them a tiny bit and rub the mascara off.

And you have a nice filled in brow.

Some of my "extra" tools that I use.
1.  Maybelline's "Pink Petal" eye shadow.  It's a really nice neutral pink that I can put on my eyelids.
2.  Covergirl eyeliner in purple.  The name has actually rubbed off, but it's number 25.  I like using purple with my green eyes, because it makes them pop a little bit.
3.  Maybelline's Great Lash mascara in Very Black.
4.  Clean Mascara Comb.  This helps getting the clumps out and separating your lashes.

Well, that's how I do my eyebrows!  I really do feel that eyebrows can define a person.  Especially a person's expression!

fun and excited!

I hope that this was able to assist anyone out there.  I thought about doing a video on this, which I could still do, so if anyone out there is interested let me know!

Movie Monday ~ The To Do List

Happy Monday everyone and welcome to the week.  Over the weekend I felt the need for a good laugh and boy did I get it!  I checked out the new movie The To Do List.

The basic plot line is this girl, Brandy Klark, wants to lose her virginity to the super hot Rusty Waters before going off to college.  She makes a "To Do List" of sexual acts that she would like to perform in order to prove to Rusty that she's sexually experienced so that he'll have sex with her.  Normally I wouldn't go see this movie.  I don't condone high school sex or sleeping around...call me a prude if you want to.  Remember that I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan and a hopeless romantic.  This was definitely not a romance flick, that's for sure.  It was a raunchy movie.  Almost as raunchy as Bridesmaids. There was a pretty awful scene that involved poop.   It did have some pretty funny moments.  You have to keep in mind that it takes place in the summer of 1993, so the clothes, the hair, and pretty much everything else takes you back!  There's not much to say about the movie.  If you want a cheap laugh, but nothing deep that you have to actually think about, go for it.  I did find myself bored a few times, but over all it was funny. I sure did not mind looking at Scott Porter's (aka Rusty Waters) abs for two hours.

I'll give it 2 1/2 stars.  I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.  I'd wait for it on Redbox.  I probably would have enjoyed Turbo a lot more!

Did you see any movies this weekend - rent or in theaters?  If so, tell me about them in the comments below.  Have a great week and see you tomorrow!

High Five For Friday

Hello everyone!  Yes, I realize I took the week off from blogging.  I didn't mean to.  I just didn't realize how crazy work was going to be after being gone for a week and a half.  It all caught up to me and I was just plain exhausted!    Here are some highlights from the week ~

1. In March I got a driving ticket.  I know...I know!  I had to take a driving class and I 'graduated' on Saturday! WooHoo!
2.  Of course we all know that the royal baby has been born!  On Tuesday my Bestie Lindsay let me know that the first look was expected.  I got on E! Online to watch the live video footage.  We were both very excited.  Thanks for keeping me in the know Linds!

Here's a printscreen shot of the live footage.

3.  On Wednesday they announced the baby's name!  I still can't believe I found out before Lindsay.  Linds is all things royal.  Of course I had to make sure that she knew and I'm so glad I texted her.  I love our texting conversations!

4.  I realize that I'm probably behind on the times with this one, but I LOVE CANDY CRUSH!!!!!  A co-worker told me about it and I'm hooked.  I just wish it didn't make me wait for lives.

5.  This past weekend I had dinner with the lovely Jacq.  We hadn't seen each other in a little while, so we met up for dinner.  Jacq will be moving back to Florida soon and brought me an early birthday present.  Did I mention that she's an amazing photographer?  She is!  This is one of my favorites and she gave it to me on canvas.  Thanks Rooms!!!!!  This photo of the photo doesn't really do it justice, but it's up on my wall!

i hope you all had some wonderful moments from your week!  Share some in the comments below.  i'd love to hear what you've been up to.  Also, I'm linking up with Lauren Elizabeth for today's High Five For Friday.  Go check out her blog and find some new ones you like.  See you next time!!!

High Five for Friday

Thank the Lord it's Friday!  I realize that it was a short work week for me by going back to work on a Wednesday, but I'm glad I did.  I don't think I could have handled a full week of work after being off for 7 full work days.  The weekend is almost here and I have dinner plans with Jacq, my last traffic class, and my car is getting looked at on Sunday (some chick hit me a few weeks ago..boo!).  Busy weekend!  I hope you all had a fabulous week and here are some of my top moments!

1.  You all know that I've been on Weight Watchers for some time.  I'm finally starting to make some headway and get myself under control with it all.  I am also reading Jillian Michaels's new book Slim for Life.  I'll talk more about this next week, but on Saturday I weighed in at 148.2.  I finally got under 150!!! WooHoo!  It feels good and I'm not going back over 150 ever again!

2.  We had a HEAT WAVE this week.  It was over 90 degress for most of the week.  On Monday it hit 100!

3.  While I was still on vacation I got to spend an afternoon with two of my favorite ladies.  We went and got pedicures and then had custard.  This was Lindsay's first girlfriend outing since Baby K arrived and she was very excited.  Marcy and I wanted to make sure she remembered to do things for herself.  Love ya lady!

4.  This happened last week, but I absolutely had to share!  While home in Roanoke for vacation I visited the Mill Mountain Star.  It's an amazing structure in Roanoke and also the largest man made star.  Now they have a camera on the star and if you go to a particular website you can see yourself with the entire city behind you.  Mom found it for me and sent me the print screen!

5.  Planet Fitness now has HydroMassage Beds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I tried this out at the gym this week and it is amazing!  You lay down on this water bed and select the speed of the massage as well as the pressure.  When you hit the little blue button on the wall these water jets start up underneath you and go up and down your body for 7 minutes.  Talk about 7 minutes in heaven!  It was amazing!  Totally worth the extra membership fee for the black card, because you have to be a black card member to use it!

I hope you all had some wonderful moments from you week!  Share some in the comments below.  i'd love to hear what you've been up to.  Also, I'm linking up with Lauren Elizabeth for today's High Five For Friday.  Go check out her blog and find some new ones you like.  See you on Monday!!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

On July 18th, 1955, 58 years ago, the best dad ever was brought into this world!

Isn't he a cute little boy!  That's him and his dad, my Grandpa Aleck.  I think he might be around 3 years old in this picture.

Sometime around 1978 he met my mom, they fell in love and got married.  Then, in 1983 they had me.

This is a great Generation Picture.  You have me (the baby), my dad, his mom/my Grandma Gracie, and his grandma/my great-grandma (in the wheelchair).  I wasn't too happy taking that picture!

This is my Baptism.  Check out my dad's 'stach in 1983.  Super cool shades too :)

He's a pretty great dad.  He would do pretty much anything for me.  When I decided to move back to the east coast from Los Angeles, dad flew out to LA and helped me drive back to Roanoke.

Dad helping me pack up my apartment in Sherman Oaks.

My final meal in Los Angeles was at Casa Vega!!!!  Best Margaritas ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We're ready to go!!!

I just want to say thanks Dad!  You're a pretty awesome Pops and I love you! xoxoxox
Have a GREAT BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Back to Work I Go

Yesterday was my last day of vacation.  I miss it already!  I was on vacation for 11 days and I loved every minute of it.  I got to spend time at home with the parental units.  I saw a movie with my dad, did some shopping with mom, we all went down to the Greenway and walked, and of course the fair!  Mom and I drove back up to Northern VA and got to see my Bestie Lindsay and her fabulous family.  We did some more shopping too.  Then I got some awesome relax time.  I didn't really know what to do with my last day.  I could have sat in my pajamas all day, but I thought I should get out of the house.  So, I did!  I decided to travel to a little area called Clarendon and walk around the shops.

I had been wanting to go to the Container Store and look at some drawer organizers for a little while now.  I love the Container Store.  I could buy everything in there!  I love the Closet section.  Sometimes I find myself shopping the closets.  Take this one for example ~ Some super cute purple clothes.  Too bad the dresses weren't for sale!

Then I wandered over to Crate & Barrel.  I wandered around there too and tested out some of the couches. This couch was super comfortable!  Too bad it was around $1400; a little out of my price range.

I had to go to Barnes & Noble.  I LOVE that store!  I could spend all day in BN, but then I remembered that I have a pretty awesome book at home that I'm reading (Joyland by Stephen King and I think it's finally picking up), so I headed home after that.

When I got home I finished Season 1 of the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black.  I had no idea it is based on a true story!  While I was Googling the OITNB picture I found the book.  I'll have to check it out for sure.  The show is fantastic and I can't wait for Season 2 next year.

Vacation was wonderful and I can't wait for the next one (January with mom...destination TBD).  It's back to work I go.  Boo!  I had to get back to reality at some point, though, right?  Might as well do it today.  At least I'm coming back on a Wednesday, so it's a short work week!

Movie Monday ~ Renter's Addition

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  I'm still on vacation and go back to work on Wednesday. I have rented a bunch of movies in the last few weeks, so I thought that today I would share with you my thoughts on them.  I haven't had the best luck with loving rentals lately, but at least I can spread some knowledge. Let's get right into it!

Hitchcock *3 out of 5 stars* ~ Starring Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his wife.  Scarlett Johansson is also in it playing Janet Leigh.  I really liked this movie.  It's about the making of Psycho and what Alfred and his wife went through to get the movie made.

Mama *3 out of 5 stars* ~ I thought this was pretty good.  I like that Jessica Chastain can play a range of characters.  The ending was different, I didn't really see it coming.  I thought it would end like they all do, but it didn't.  Check it out if you like scary movies.

Side Effects * 2 out of 5 stars* ~ They are calling Channing Tatum the "action star who can act."  I don't think he's that great.  Mara Rooney, however, is pretty good.  But not in this movie.  This movie was slow and dumb and poor Jude Law!

Seven Psychopaths *3 out of 5 stars* ~ It's about a down and out screenwriter (Colin Farrell) trying to write a movie.  I really thought that it was about 7 psychos that kidnapped a dog.  The psychos are spread throughout the movie, but I think Woody Harrelson was really the best part of the movie.  There were definitely some funny parts!

Promised Land *3 out of 5 stars*  I need to start knowing what a movie is about before I watch it.  I guess I thought it was a sort of fictional version of Food, Inc.  Even though I was under the impression that this movie was about one thing, I still thought it was pretty good.  It had heart to it and I love Matt Damon.

Dark Shadows *1 out of 5 stars* ~ Don't Waste Your Time.  This movie sucked! No pun intended (Johnny Depp plays a vampire :-) )  It was painful to sit through.

This is 40 *2 out of 5 stars* ~ Slow and a bad script.  I thought this was supposed to be funny!  It's the spin off from Knocked Up and that was really funny!  Pete and Deb need to see a marriage counselor (I think they actually do).  All they do is fight.  The F bomb is dropped way more than it needs to be; so is G.D. There are some parts that are funny, but not enough to carry this movie.  Pass!

Warm Bodies *2 out of 5 stars* ~ It was cute, but not very good.  It's based off a book by Isaac Marion and I'm sure it's much better.  Read over See.

There you have it!  I hope I have recommended some that might interest you and also saved you from a few that are really not worth your time.  Remember, this is all my own opinion!  Enjoy and have a great week!

High Five For Friday & Vaca Wrap Up

This has been a great week!  Being home in Roanoke has been very relaxing.  I have gotten to work out a lot, catch up on some cable and get introduced to some great new shows (hello Interior Therapy on BRAVO).  Here are some highlights from my week...

1.  I got home to Roanoke on Saturday and momma had flowers waiting for me in my room.  They are so pretty and I love them!  Then, on Sunday, dad and I played Scrabble.  My dad is a big reader and really smart, so sometimes he is tough at Scrabble.  I WON!!!!  haha! oh yeah :)

2.  On Monday evening we went to the Salem Fair.  I did, partially..okay totally, plan my vacation home around the fair :)  It's just a fun event that I love.  The fair reminds me of childhood and small town living.  The last time I was at the Salem Fair was in 2008.  We got a funnel cake (27 weight watchers points) and shared it between the three of us.  We walked around and people watched and watched some of the rides.  We came to my favorite ride, The Zipper, and then we saw the Elephants!  They are so pretty.  There was also a band playing too.  It was fun!

3.  While home I got introduced to some new tv shows.  See, I don't have cable at home.  I don't even own a television right now (black Friday...hopefully...a 42" incher).  Anywho, mom DVR'd the new ABC Family show called The Fosters.  I LOVE this show!  Mom and I have the same tastes in tv shows.  I also found an awesome show, totally by accident, on BRAVO - Interior Therapy.  Jeff Lewis, the designer, and his assistant Jenni are awesome! Jeff even brings in his own housekeeper, Zoila, to help out and she is hilarious. Definitely check it out.  I also got to work out a lot while I was home.  Not only did I hit up Planet Fitness, but I went to my mom's gym with her and all three of us went down to the Greenway to walk.  We had really great weather while I was home.

This is mom and me walking down at the Greenway.

4.  Wednesday I got a new hair cut!  What do you think?  I really like it and am so glad to have it off my shoulders!

5.  Yesterday I headed back to Northern VA, mom in tow.

Momma came up with me so she could visit with my Bestie Lindsay and meet Baby K. I got to see Linds, Tolar, G-Ma and of course Baby K.  I was holding her when it was suddenly feeding time.  I was going to give her back to Tolar, but he handed me the bottle.  Auntie Erica got to feed Baby K!  She's such a sweetie....muah!

I hope everyone had a wonderful week and a great weekend ahead!  I am linking up with Lauren Elizabeth for today's #H54F.  Go check her out and meet some other awesome bloggers!  Have a great weekend!

the.book.chat ~ book inspired playlist

Welcome to today's book chat!  I am co-hosting with Jessica of Sweet Green Tangerine.  Today is all about Book Inspired Playlists.  This one was tough for me, but then I had a light bulb moment!

I know that I have mentioned the Wideacre trilogy by Philippa Gregory before.  The third book in the series, Meridon, has a bit of a carnival/gypsy flare to it.  The song is called "Enter the Circus/Welcome" by Christina Aguilera.

Whenever I read books by Nicholas Sparks I like listening to singer/songwriter music.  The last book I read, The Best of Me, made me think of one of Sarah Bareilles song called "Gravity."  It's off of her first album Little Voice.  The song really works near the end of the book.  I won't give it away, so I'll stop there :)

I hope you enjoyed my "playlists" that are book inspired.  Grab a button and link up!  What are some songs that you love that remind you of some of your favorite books?
