An Easter Sunday Social

Happy Easter Sunday everyone!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter Sunday!
While I am at brunch with family friends, here is a Sunday Social for you ~

1. What is your favorite type of workout to do?
I love doing dance related work out.  Gold's Gym has a great dance cardio class that's awesome.  My friend Marcy goes all the time.  Zumba is a lot of fun too.

2. What is your favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet?
Twizzlers are my favorite candy.  I could eat them all the time.  The Strawberry kind.

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do?
Take my comforter to the dry cleaner.  It's been in the trunk of my care for a while now.  Haha!

4. Do you prefer post-its or phone reminders? Why?
Post-Its!  I loooooooooove post-its.  I rarely use my phone for calendar purposes.  I also have my planner too.  I do much better when I physically write things down.

5. What is your favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile?
Pretty much any picture with my momma and my god-baby, Frisco.

Happy Easter Sunday

May you have a blessed Easter with loved ones!

High 5 for Friday

Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am  home in Roanoke for this wonderful Easter weekend.  I left Washington D.C. yesterday afternoon and got home just in time to watch Grey's Anatomy with mom and dad.  They went to bed and then I watched Scandal.  It's so nice to be able to watch television live instead of waiting the next day (no offense to Hulu).

I hope you all had a great week!  Here are some highlights from mine (they are mostly from my arrival in Roanoke last night) ~

When I got home last night it was lovely to see that a lady bug flag was waiting for me.  If you didn't know, I have a thing for lady bugs.  Dad got this little yard flag for me!  Love it!

At my mom's work, there is a nick name thing that's going around.  There's a woman in her office that calls everyone "pumpkin."  So, my mom and her boss started calling each other their own names.  My mom is Squash and her boss is Zucchini.  Somehow, I got to be Butternut Squash.  Zucchini found this for me and it was waiting for me when I got home yesterday.  Love it!

Again, my thing for lady bugs!  Mom found these super cute salt and pepper shakers.  They have magnets on their little faces that makes them kiss.  Not only are they lady bugs, but they fit in great to my red themed kitchen.  Love it!

This is be absolute BEST chap stick I have ever used!  You can only get it at Hollins University.  I like it better than Berts Beeswax.  Mom got me a tube!

It is so nice to be able to watch television while I'm blogging.
I need to get a TV.

Have a great weekend!

A Walking Tour of Washington D.C.

Happy Washington Wednesday!

I thought that today I would take you for a walking tour of Washington, D.C.

How Personal Should You Get?

I am having one of those moments where I can't think of anything to write about.

I had a good day yesterday.  We got about 4 inches of snow Monday night.  My in-house group at the hotel had an event that went really well.  I had a good food day (definitely sticker worthy) and went to the gym.
But you don't want to hear about that!

Or do you?

I posted on twitter, about a week ago, for some advice on a struggling blog.  My Bestie said to make my posts more personal.  Rooms said the same thing.  How personal should one get, though?  I started my weekly "Washington Wednesday" post (check it out tomorrow!) and have tried to make those personal by adding a story to each Washington week.  I know that there are people who blog about their significant others (I don't have one) or their children (I don't have those either).  Some people open up about health conditions.

I have my 1 year follow up with my physician on Friday about my depression medication, so maybe I'll write about that next week.

I use to write screenplays and I even thought about having a weekly post be part of a story.  Each week give you a new chapter.  But that's not really "personal" is it?

I'm reading Patty Stanger's new book Become Your Own Matchmaker (I'm single...) and I could write about that sort of thing.  I actually almost started a blog while I was on  I called it Matching My Way To True Love.  I didn't end up posting anything, though.  The point was to blog about my experience while doing the whole on-line dating thing.  I know some people that have a collective blog about that, however the name of it escapes me.

I guess my question is, where do you draw the line about what to write?  I mean, we are putting this stuff out into the universe by it being online. Anyone and everyone and their twice removed cousin can read it.  People I will probably never meet (the 32 people in Russia) read my blog (hello lovely Russians)!

I definitely have some personal stories that I can share.  Things all sorts of people could probably relate to.  Maybe I am worrying too much.  Maybe I should just stop thinking and start writing.

What do you think?

~ Here's a funny picture for your Tuesday ~
I did this via PicMonkey!  It's so easy to use and a lot of fun :)  Go check it out and starting making sassy pictures!

Monday's 5 for 5 - & I hit 5 out of 5!!!

Welcome to the week!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Linking up with Jessica and Jen for today's 5 for 5.

Let's see how I did with my to-do list last week...

Accomplished ~ Mostly Accomplished ~ Didn't Get To At All

1. Re-join the Gym
I joined Planet Fitness this week!  It feels really good to be at a gym again.

2. Go back to my sticker method of tracking what I eat.
I followed my sticker ways and had only 2 sticker worthy days.  Let's see if I can get some more this week.
Someone asked me what my sticker method is, so I will explain.  I actually got the idea from Carrie Underwood.  She would set a goal for herself and kept a food journal.  Whenever she had a good day and stayed within her goal, she gave herself a sticker.  Since I am doing weight watchers my points goal is to not go over 26 points each day.  I like to use fun stickers that are super cute, usually animals.
Monday was sticker worthy..Here are some of the stickers I use.

3. Work out at least 2 times this week
I worked out on Thursday, when I joined PF, and then again on Saturday.

4. Pay the bills...ick!
It's painful, but it must be done!

5.  Get my contacts (eyes)
Finally :) I went to iDoc in D.C. on Friday and had a contact fitting.  It's a good thing too, because the doctor I saw in August gave me a prescription that was too strong!  I won't be seeing her again.  Right now I have a trial pair and will go back on Thursday to get a 6 month supply.

I can't believe I got all 5 things done this week!  I have a new method that helps to remind me what my goals are.  I put each goal on a cute sticky note and post it right above my computer.  I look at them every day!

~ Here is my to-do list for this week ~

1. Work out at least 3 times.
2. Get 4 days worth of stickers.
3. Do my taxes.
4.  Finish "The Promise of Stardust."
5.  Drive home to Roanoke w/o stopping!

What are your goals for the week?

P.S. & Don't Forget ~ I'm participating in a March Group Giveaway on Pursuit of Pink.  Go check it out to win some AWESOME prizes!

A Spring Sunday Social

It's that time of the week again.  The lazy Sunday!  I love spending my Sundays reading now.  Curl up in my jammies with a hot cup of tea (or hot chocolate) and just read.

...and Blog!

I really like the Social Sunday Link Up, because it allows my fabulous readers to get to know me a little better each week.

Today's questions are all about Spring.

1.  What is your favorite thing about spring?
Well, I would say that everything starts blooming, but all that stuff that's blooming kills my allergies!  So, I am going to say the COLORS!  All of the pretty pastel colors are appropriate once again.

2.  What is your favorite type of flower to grow or receive?
I don't grow flowers, but Daisies are my favorite flowers!!!!  Meg Ryan's character in You've Got Mail and I have this in common.  They are just so friendly looking.  Don't you think that daisies are the friendliest flower?

3.  What is your favorite nail polish color?
For spring colors it would have to be these two really pretty ones from Essie.  I love Essie nail polish.
The color on the left, lilacism, I will put on my tosies.  The color on the right, cascade cool, I will put on my fingers.
Today is definitely a day for a mani/pedi.

4.  What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Besides going to baseball games, I LOVE going to concerts in the summer.
This is me and mom at the Kelly Clarkson concert last summer at Jiffy Lube Live!

5.  Do you have any spring plans?
As of right now my only Spring plans are to go home for Easter.  I have a lot of summer plans, though. Atlanta to visit my girlfriend Steph; possibly Scottsdale for work; Lindsay's baby shower.

What do you guys like best about spring?  Any plans of your own?  Let me know in a comment below!

P.S. & Don't Forget ~ I'm participating in a March Group Giveaway on Pursuit of Pink.  Go check it out to win some AWESOME prizes!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

High 5 for Friday

Welcome to Friday!!!  I love this feeling of the weekend right in front of me.  I hope everyone had a great week.  Here are some highlights from mine...

1.  Pay Day was this week and I hit the grocery store like I never have before!  I love having food in my fridge, especially good healthy food.

                                              Before                        After

2.  The hotel I work at, The Rouge, had a special event Wednesday night ~ Red Sprinkle!

I came up with 5 specialty drinks: Lady in Red (champagne), Red Corvette (chocolate), Red Bottom (margarita), Ruby Red Slipper (rose), Red Sprinkle (cosmo).  Our Red Corvette had a pretty red sugar rim.

3.  As I was shopping at Target this week I decided to head over to the music section and check out JT's new album.  I've been hearing a lot of really good things.  However...
...when I got there they were all out!  All that was left was the rain check tickets.  They were so out, that the display was just hanging there!  I guess I'll just wait :)

4.  I joined Planet Fitness!!!!!!!!!!
I am a Planet Fitness Black Card member!  I get access to ALL Planet Fitness locations; unlimited use of their massage chairs; unlimited use of their tanning booths (not that I'll use them); a Black Card T-Shirt; 1/2 all drinks;  my friends can come with me for FREE (gym date anyone).  One of the really nice things about this gym is that you get free training sessions.  FREE!!!  My first day at the gym I did a circuit training session and an ab session.  The gym is really clean and has TONS of cardio machines.
Let's get fit!

5.  I am participating in an AWESOME March Group Giveaway.
I am giving away a $10 Barnes & Noble Gift Card.  Some other great prizes are: 2 $10 Target Gift Cards, $15 Amazon Gift Card,  and ad space from 3 different blogs.  It's a pretty great opportunity, so go to
Pursuit of Pink and check it out!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm *Co-Hosting* on The Book Chat Today!!!!

Today is one of my favorite blogging days....the book chat!
I am so excited to be co-hosting today's link up with Jessica at Sweet Green Tangerine.
This is my first co-hosting gig and I'm super excited!
Today we are talking about a book that we are currently reading.

I was currently reading Dark Places, by Gillian Flynn, but I finished it on Monday.  It was AWESOME!  I had been warned that it was really dark (Gone Girl kept me up a few nights with my lights on), but it wasn't as creepy and scary as I thought it was going to be.  Well, until the last 100 pages...eek!

Anyways, on to one of the books I am currently reading now...

I was lucky enough to get a signed first edition at Target (woohoo).  The author has a note in the front to Target Guest -
I'll let you in on a secret.  I cannot walk past a book aisle without stopping to browse.  I think I have a bit of a book addiction.  On more than one occasion, my oldest son has had to grab me by the elbow and pull me away with the admonishment, "Mom, we didn't come here to buy books!"
That is pretty much me when I'm at Target.  Except for the eldest son part.  I usually say that to myself!

On to the story.  As soon as I read the book jacket I was sold; plus the cover is really pretty.  Yes, I judge books by their covers; especially pink covers!  This is a story about "love and sacrifice, conflict and hope."  A couple that has been in love and together their entire lives faces the ultimate decision no one should ever have to face.
The author doesn't waste any time and gets right to it.  The big event happens right away.  It's very intense and definitely a page turner.  I'm only a few chapters in, but so far I really like it.  I can't wait to see what happens!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Don't forget to link up!

Washington Wednesday Vol 4

Happy Washington Wednesday!

Welcome back to Washington Wednesday.  Today I'm going to talk about my favorite United States President, Abraham Lincoln and his D.C. Memorial.

For as long as I can remember, Abraham Lincoln has been my favorite US President.  He's known as "Honest Abe."  He just has such a friendly face and looks like such a nice man.  After all, he freed the slaves.  I was raised, and still am, a democrat and freedom for all has always been a strong opinion of mine.

When I first moved to Washington D.C. and was working at Donovan House, our concierge arranged a Night Tour of D.C. with On Board Tours.  It was an awesome tour (I highly recommend it for people visiting the city).  When I was in 6th grade I came to D.C. with Roanoke Catholic School.  We got the usual tours and such.  I had never seen the city at night before.  The memorials are amazing at night!  The Lincoln Memorial especially.

Look how triumphant is it.  Lincoln is in the center of it in all his glory.  He's so triumphant that Hollywood can't help but put him in movies:

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Night at the Museum 2

On my tour I learned a pretty interesting fact about the memorial.  The wall on the right hand side of the Lincoln Statue has his 2nd Inaugural Address carved into the wall.  About 3/4 of the way down the word "future" is spelled as "euture."  Guess you can't white that out! hahaha!

A very nice foreign tourist took a picture of me with Lincoln.

Enjoy the rest of your week!  If there is anything about Washington D.C. that you'd like me to check out and write about, let me know!

Oh and make sure to come back tomorrow!  I'm co-hosting with Jessica @ Sweet Green Tangerine. Tomorrow's topic is what we are currently reading.

(: See you tomorrow :)

My Harry Potter Fix

I found someone with an equal (if not more) love for Harry Potter.  One Haole Girl has a weekly Tuesday link up called My Harry Potter Fix.  I love this!

Today's questions are as follows ~
1.  Assuming you were sorted in Harry's year, which character do you think would be your best friend?
Gosh!  I would like to think I'd be best friends with Ron & Harry.  I'm really good with numbers and could help with tests and fun adventures like Hermione does.  I could just replace her :)
2.  Which season at Hogwarts would be your favorite?
Definitely Christmas!!!!!!!!!
3. What class do you think you would excel in most?
Not potions, that's for sure!  Science was not my best subject.  I think that I might be good either Charms or  History of Magic.
4. Would you be involved in any extra-curricular activities at Hogwarts?
I would definitely join Dumbledore's Army. Haha!
For real though, if Hogwarts had a choir or a theater club I would definitely join in.  I'm not a big sports player, so I would play Quidditch, but I could be a Quidditch Cheerleader.
I am so glad I had my Harry Potter marathon this weekend!

A 5 for 5 Monday

Welcome to another wonderful Monday.  Well, we should at least start our Mondays in a positive mind frame.  How was everyone's weekend?  Did you do anything fun?
More importantly, how was your week? I am linking up with Jessica and Jenn for today's 5 for 5.

Did you accomplish all of your goals?  Wanna see how I did?  Here you go!

Accomplished ~ Mostly Accomplished ~ Didn't Get To At All

1. Get up Monday - Friday by 6am (adjusting it to help a bit).
I really did try!  Everyday I set my alarm for 5:30/5:45/6:00.  These last couple weeks have just been so hard to get up early.  I did get up early on Thursday, 6:20am.  I had to be at work early for a group arrival.

2.  Hit the gym/walk outside at least 4 days this week.
I didn't work out at all.

3.  Finish Homer's Odyssey.
I finally finished my book!  I've read about 100 pages in my new one, Dark Places, and I've started another one as well.  Check out my book page :)

4.  Track what I eat this week.
I didn't do this either.  I have really been slacking on my Weight Watchers lately.

5.  Pack my lunch for work the night before.
I didn't pack my lunch the night before, but I did pack it before I left for work.  I had a lunch with me everyday this week! much RED this week!  At least I finally finished my book :)  Here are this week's goals ~

1. Re-join the Gym
2. Go back to my sticker method of tracking what I eat
3. Work out at least 2 times this week
4. Pay the bills...ick!
5.  Get my contacts (eyes)

Good luck to everyone this week!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm linking up for today's fabulous Social Sunday with Ashley and Neely.  This week's questions are a little seasonal, let's check it out!
Sunday Social
1.  What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Definitely staying in and watching movies!

2.  What is your favorite thing to do on a summer weekend?

3.  What is your favorite spring activity?
As the winter days go away and spring comes about I love going for walks.  Around the neighborhood or venturing into DC like I'm going to do today!

4.  What is your favorite way to spend a winter day?
This one is definitely very similar to a rainy day, but I usually like to cuddle up with a cup of hot chocolate!

5.  What is your favorite season and why?
Mine is definitely fall, it always has been.  I love jeans and boots.  The colors are all changing in the trees. The crisp weather...I love it!

6.  What is the best birthday you ever had?
This would be my 27th birthday in has 2 parts to it.

Part 1 ~ San Francisco with my mom ~
En route  along the beautiful coast!    A couple redheads locked in Alcatraz!

Wicked was AWESOME!!!!        Lombard Street...the curviest street!

The Golden Gate Bridge
Mom and I always have a great time when we travel together.  We saw a show, ate at some amazing restaurants, did our fair share of shopping!  The drive up and down was great too.  We also spent come days in Los Angeles before my mom headed back to Virginia.  We discovered Frosted, the best cupcakes ever!!!

Part 2 ~ Las Vegas with my brother ~
We had so much fun! We stayed at the Paris hotel, had dinner at Botero inside the Encore hotel.  After dinner we went to Surrender for drinks and birthday champagne!

The next day we cooled off at the MGM's Day Time Pool Club - Wet Republic. That night we saw Santana in concert.  Jacob knows how to have a good time!
