High Five For Friday

And it's actually my Friday!!!! I didn't have a very eventful week. I worked Sunday - today, 3pm - 11pm. A lot of my fall shows did come back this week!!!

I am dedicating my Friday post to my wonderful friend Stephanie Polanco.
I met Stephanie in 2010 while I was living in Los Angeles. I was working at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and she had just gotten a job there. We didn't hit it off right away, I actually couldn't stand her at first, but over time we got to know each other. She eventually became one of my closest and dearest friends!

When I moved out of Los Angeles and back to the East Coast we were able to keep in touch, which I am very grateful for. We would talk on the phone every so often and update each other on what was going on in our lives. Last summmer (2011) she met a boy, Frankie, and fell head over heals in love with him and knew that he was "the one." That fall I got a picture text message of a pregnancy stick showing positive!!!!!!!!!! STEPHANIE WAS PREGGERS!!!! I could not have been happier for her! She was very excited herself. On Christmas Eve Frankie proposed and Stephanie said YES! In March, Stephanie held a baby shower in her home state of Ohio. I drove up from Virginia to be there. She looked fabulous in her stretchy pants, as always! For my shower gift, I gave her 3 children's books: "The Runaway Bunny," "Harold and the Purple Crayon," and "The Mouse, the Red-Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear." Those were three of my favorite books when I was little! I wasn't able to go to the wedding, but on April 18th they were married in Las Vegas, baby yeah!

On May 4, 2012 Frankie Junior was born. He's so freakin' cute!

This past summer Stephanie, Frankie, and Frankie Jr moved back to Ohio to be close to Stephanie's family. I drove up to Cincinnati in July to visit. FJR is getting so big! Here are a few pictures ~
He can't read yet, so he'll just eat "The Runaway Bunny" instead!

Until next time ~ *erica*

My Current Fall Crushes (hence the word Love being tossed around!)

I love this time of year! The weather starts to get cooler. The leaves are changing colors. Boots! And most of all, the dark fall colors.

When it comes to nail polish, I am a big fan of dark colors. I may not be the best self-manicurist, but that is what nail polish remover is for! I recently disovered, and am loving, the nail polish brand Essie. Below are my new favorite fall colors.
The left color is Bahama Mama and the right color is Wicked. Bahama Mama is a really pretty dark plum and Wicked is a dark burgundy. I put Bahama Mama on my finger nails and Wicked on my toes. What do you think?

My next fall crush is my new Merona bag ~ !
I love tote bags. I have been carrying a large black tote bag (Aldo...have had it for years!!!), but it was too big! I kept losing everything and it would take forever to find something. I have smaller bags, but then my planner doesn't fit :( I went into Target and Merona had some new bags. This one came out in 4 different colors and I loved the Burgundy shade (also in brown, black, and dark green)! The purse is a great size too. There are four outside pockets that I can use for my phone, keys, chapstick, etc. The inside pocket fits all I have perfectly! Love it!

Now I just need to find some boots :)

Until next time ~ *erica*

Fall is here!!!

Hello to my readers!

I am so sorry I have gotten behind on my posts. It's been a little crazy in my life. I have been having some technical difficulty (my droid went crazy on me and I had to go to Verizon and have it reset), the blinds in my apartment broke last week (still has not been fixed...I get a lot of light up on the 14th floor and am not sleeping very well), and I have been working the lovely 3pm-11:30pm shift for the last 2 weeks. Needless to say, I'm exhausted when I get home and then I sleep in until I have to get up to get ready for work. I have decided to start looking for a new job and that is time consuming as well. I will do better at posting! I will also say that I'm so glad to see summer in my rear view mirror!

I bought a tiny little pumkin at Trader Joe's last week.

It is officially fall. Saturday, September 22nd, was the first day of autumn. I love this time of year! Pumpkins and pumpkin carving...apple cider...apple butter. It gets cooler and the sweaters come out! I am getting exposed to college football for the first time thanks to a new friend of mine, so that has been fun. Goooo Wolverines! Down with the Hokies...haha. This year I am definitely going home for Thankgiving. I'm going to do the Drumstick Dash with mom and dad, watch the parade, and eat monkey bread! Oh, and black Friday shopping. Before we know it, it will be Christmas!

Until next time ~ *erica*

Glee & My Momma

I was finally able to watch the season premiere of Gleeon Hulu this Friday. IT WAS WONDERFUL! Not only was it a great first episode, but it really brought back memories from when I had moved to Los Angeles. If you remember from my very first post, I moved to Los Angeles in March 2006. My momma drove out west with me. We left very early at 4:30am on March 4th. It took us 3 nights and 4 days to get to Los Angeles. We had a blast. We almost ran out of gas a few times, stopped in Vail, Colorado and went shopping. We of course stopped in Las Vegas for our last night. On March 7th we arrived in Los Angeles.

If you don't know me, let me tell you a little bit about the relationship I have with my momma. She is my best friend! We have a super great relationship. I can talk to my mom about pretty much anything. We also talk on the phone at least twice a day. Moving to the other side of the country was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done.

There are two scenes in the Glee premiere that tore at my heart strings. Kurt decided to go to New York afterall and his dad drove him to the airport. This was a hard scene for my mom, because Burt was saying goodbye to his son. My mom had to do that when she left Los Angeles to go home to Virginia. She was saying goodbye to her little girl. I still have the card that my mom gave me that last morning. I cried when I read it. Sometimes I pull it out to read again, just to remind myself how proud she is of me. The second scene that tugged at the heart strings, for me anyway, was at the end when Rachel called Kurt and confessed that New York City was a tough place and that she was feeling lost and lonely. I can't even begin to tell you how many times, over the 5 years I was there, I felt that way. Having my momma so far away was really tough!

Being back on the east coast I get to see my mom all the time! Well, at least once a month. It definitely beats twice a year!

Love you momma! ~ xoxo *erica*

2 New Fall Shows to check out!

I was up until 4am watching "tv" on Monday night. I put "tv" in quotes, because I don't have cable. I use Hulu. I found some new shows that I am HIGHLY recommending.

Show #1 ~ REVOLUTION NBC Mondays @ 10pm
If you liked Hunger Games, you will love this show. Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future. I am totally hooked and cannot wait until next week! JJ Abrams and Jon Favreau know how to make a television show!

Show #2 ~ The Mob Doctor FOX Mondays @ 9pm
A young thoracic surgeon becomes indebted to the South Chicago mafia and is forced to moonlight as a mob doctor, while also working full time at Chicago's most prominent hospital. This show is going to rock it!

I'm still catching up on some of the new premieres, but I will keep you posted!

Until next time ~ *erica*

My favorite Facebook Pages

When it comes to Facebook, I think too many people use it for personal progaganda, especially with the election upon. I can't handle all this political stuff! I also get pretty sick up seeing so many negative postings. So, I started "Like"-ing some fun pages.

My first favorite is called "I was born this Amazing." They post some of the most beautiful pictures. They post nature, street art, animals, people, ideas, homes, all kinds of things! Here are some of their pictures:

I love this little guy! A little while ago they posted a picture of a baby unicorn. See, they do exist :)

This is Niagara Falls at night...AMAZING!!!

This is just so pretty!

I love the street art!

A tiger shaking off after taking a swim.

A mountain and an island make a Violin!

Pretty amazing, huh! Check out I Was Born Amazing's Facebook page!

My second favorite is called "Jokes and Quotes." This pages posts some of the funniest pictures, jokes, quotes, etc. Sometimes they put up "cuteness alerts." Here are a few examples ~

Cuteness Alert!

Hot Stuff!

I swear I'm going to do this tonight too!

That's it for today! Until next time ~ *erica*

Fall TV 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe September is almost over! My television shows have already started coming back. I have everything marked on my calendar!

Parenthood - Premiered on September 11th and I watched it on Hulu a few days after.
We left off last season with Crosby and Jasmine getting married (yay!) and Mark proposing to Sarah. In the season premiere Mark and Sarah are definitely engaged. Momma Braverman is planning the big family portrait before Haddie goes off to college. It's a family only picture and Mark convinces Camille to allow him in the photo (go Mark!). Also, Sarah gets a job working for a photographer (played by Ray Romano) and I'm pretty sure he developes a crush on Sarah. Looks like a pretty good season to come!

Glee - Premiered on September 13th. I haven't watched it yet, because I don't have tv/cable. I actually have to wait 8 days to watch in on Hulu or Fox.com. I'm really interested to see how the show works with some of the characters gone.

Grey's Anatomy - Premiers September 27th. After the finale, I'm not sure if I can go on! I was a tear machine and also very much hyperventilating! When Lexie died I was a mess! Sooooo sad for Mark! :(

Revenge - Premieres on September 30th and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!! This is definitely a guilty pleasure show. The season finale was insane! This season we search for Emily's mother! What!!!!!!!!!

Once Upon A Time - Premieres September 30th. As you may already know, I'm a romantic. What better for a romantic than fairytales! I absolutely love this show. When Emma broke the curse in the season finale and brought Henry back to life, I didn't know where the show would go from there. All of the fairy tale characters know who they are again! Then, when the dark purple mist came rolling into Storybrook, you just knew evil was on it's way! I worked with Lana Parilla, the Evil Queen, on Swingtown. She's fantastic and she was born for this roll! This is one premiere I will definitely not be missing!

Gossip Girl - Premiers October 8th - The Final Season... This is another guilty pleasure. So sad that it's heading into it's last season. I'm looking forward the possible demise of Serena Van der Woodson. I want Chuck and Blair to finally get together (hopefully he won't die, because he sure does in the book series). Dan Humphry, please, for the love of God, write the truth about these upper eastside twits!

There are also some new shows premiering that I'm super psyched about!

Nashville - Premieres October 10th on ABC. It looks pretty similiar to Gwyneth Paltrow's movie, Country Strong. But, I love country music, Connie Britton, and Hayden Panettiere. When I worked at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles I got to meet Hayden. She is such a sweet person and I'm really glad she's still working.

Beauty and the Beast - Premiers October 11th on the CW. Another fairytale! Do you remember the television show from the '80s with Linda Hamilton? Loved that show! This could very well be a remake of this one. Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) is playing Catherine and Jay Ryan is playing Vincent (total hottie!). I'm totally going to check this one out.

That's all I've got lined up for now. Smash isn't coming back until Mid-Season and the Carrie Diaries premiere date hasn't been released yet. I love my tv shows!

until next time ~ *erica*

Coupon Clippin' Sunday

It's that time of the week again where I get out my scissors and clip clip clip away! I'm not a rich girl, so I save where I can. The coupon books in Sunday's paper are some of the best ways to save. For Christmas a couple of years ago, my momma got me a coupon book to store all of my coupons. I have it separated by category and it's very helpful for me when I'm at the store searching for the best coupon. Sometimes the coupons aren't the best deal, but it's worth trying!

Have you seen that show Extreme Couponing? I'm not quite like that! Although, I will hand it to them, they know what they are doing! I don't know where I would put all that product! I have a hard enough time storing a normal amount of groceries. My Bestie Lindsay got me into couponing. She showed me how she does it and she's really good. She definitely has a stock pile in her laundry room.

Some stores don't accept coupons, like Trader Joe's. That's where I get all of my produce. It's affordable and their produce is really fresh! At Trader Joe's, if you bring your own bags, they sign you up to receive a gift card! A good amount of my shopping is done at Target. They do accept coupons and they also give you five cents for each grocery bag you bring on your own. I love Target and I sometimes get lost in there.

I found some good coupons in today's paper. Some laundry detergent, $2 off hair color, $1 off Alexia frozen products when I buy 2 bags (sweet potato fries and onion rings are delish!!!!), and $1 off Newman's Own Pizza. My dad is really good about mailing me coupons too. Thanks dad!

Until next time ~ *erica*

Come on Hollywood, step up!

On Thursday I went to see "The Possesion."

I give it 2 1/2 stars. It was entertaining, but not original enough.
The Basic Plot ~ A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl's father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

It almost seems to me that Hollywood has run out of ideas. They keep taking the same core idea and recycling it. The Possession is an exorcism movie. Girl becomes possessed by a demon...family finds willing participant to perform exorcism. And of course, it's "based on a true story." As was The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Devil Inside.

Jennifer Lawrence has a new movie coming out called The House at the End of the Street. Basic Plot ~ A mother and daughter move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over.

The running theme seems to be haunted houses and evil children. I'm not gonna lie, there is nothing scarier than an evil child (execpt for clowns).

Ethan Hawke has a movie coming out soon called Sinister. Let's see...a house where people died...CHECK...scary dead children...CHECK...a "boogie man"...CHECK!

Oh, let's not forget Jessica Biel's new move The Tall Man. Don't get me started on the title! Scary man...CHECK...taker of children...CHECK! There was also Daniel Radcliffe's movie, The Woman In Black. Haunted House...CHECK...taker of children...CHECK...creepy dead kids...CHECK!

I'm all for recycling and saving the earth, but when it comes to my entertainment value, can't Hollywood come up with something better!

Hip Hip Hooray for My Friday!

Here I go again with a Friday that's not a Friday! Yes, it is Wednesday, but it is also My Friday! I have the next two days off, all to myself. Now, don't get jealous. I do have to work Saturday and Sunday night. I had a pretty good week; let's recap...

~ Thursday I went to Alexandria's Fashion Night Out with Lindsay. We found some great new stores!! Lou Lou is a fantastic accessories store with so much to choose from. They have everything from earrings to purses to scarves! I will definitely be checking it out again. The best part is they have stores all over the city!

~ On Friday I got to reconnect with a friend I haven't seen in quite a while, Ms. Stephanie. She is probably one of the funniest people I know and I love her! Following that, Lindsay hosted her 31 Gifts party. It's a great line that makes purses, tote bags, accessories, wallets, etc. You can get everything personalized too! Lindsay gave me a great tote bag for my birthday last year that I carry with me to work all the time!
I pulled this picture from their website (I'm obviously not Cassie), but this is the one I have. Mine is in a black and white polk-a-dot print! Love it!!!

~ Saturday I worked, but afterwards I headed to a friend's for some college football! After the game we walked up to Clarendon and had a great dinner at EvenTide.
They have three levels! The 1st floor is called "Odd Bar," 2nd floor is the main dining area called Eventide, and the 3rd floor is their rooftop terrace. We had dinner in Odd Bar and the food was fantastic. I seem to be eating red meat more often now. I just can't get enough!

~ Sunday evening I reunited with my roomies, Jacq and Frisco. If you remember, Jacq was my most recent roommate, along with her cat Frisco. I went over to her new one bedroom and we had wine and pizza! Frisco left me with some love scratches! Jacq is doing great and her boyfriend just got a new job in DC. He'll be moving up from Florida soon. Yay!

Here is Frisco, entranced by the blinking light of Jacq's internet modem!

~ On Monday I started wearing my new suit this week! Mom bought it for me at Express and I absolutely love it!!!
It is a zip-back stretch tweed skirt and I also have the jacket that goes with it. Color block is HUGE for fall, so I'm very "in" right now.

I'm very much looking foward to my days off. Tomorrow I fight the good fight against fraud at Wells Fargo and then off to Shooter McGee's for Pub Trivia! Friday will be a pamper day. Thinking about going to a movie, possible seeing "The Possession."

Have a great "weekend" and until next time ~ *erica*

My Current Netflix Obsession

If you know me, then you know how much I LOVE tv and movies! I mean, hello! I went to L.A. to become a Movie Star! I have a memebership to Netflix and I am totally stuck on How I Met Your Mother right now. I didn't start watching the show until I had worked on a few episodes doing background work. Even then I only watched it every so often. I started watching it on Netflix about two weeks ago. I started with Season 1, Episode 1. I just hit season 6 today! I absolutely love this show. I want my own Ted Mosby!

If you're not familiar with the show, it's about a guy, Ted Mosby, who tells his children the story of how he met their mother. The show is going into its 8th and final season this fall. We will finally find out who Ted's dream girl is!

Season 8 stars on September 24th on CBS!!!

Paranormal Phenomenon

Let me start by saying that I love scary movies! I've been watching them for as long as I can remember. I have a memory of being 7 years old and watching Freddy Krueger: A Nightmare on Elm Street in our house in Latrobe, PA. When I was little I saw Poltergeist. To this day I still cannot look at a television set while turning it off, in fear of the glow as the screen goes to black! Then there is the Scream series and the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. The Halloween series I absolutely love too! Especially the two that Rob Zombie made. Don't even get me started on The Blair Witch Project! I saw that one at Grandin Theatre in Roanoke, VA with my mom and dad. It scared the shit out of me! I slept on the floor next to my parents bed that night(yes, I was 16 years old at the time). The handheld way of shooting is just too real! I had to leave the theater during Book of Shadows: Blair Witch Project 2. Same thing with any scary movie where a child is possessed! I fear that there will be a small child at the end of my bed staring at me when I wake!

In October of 2009 another handheld movie came out that rocked the world - Paranormal Activity. It's about a couple who becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence after moving into a new home. This movie scared me so badly that I couldn't sleep at all that night! I had to watch a comedy in my living room until the sun came up, before I could sleep! I was afraid I would wake up to find a demon in my room.

In October of 2010, the sequel came out: Paranormal Activity 2.
The concept: After experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins", a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem." I heard this one was the even scarier than the first. I refused to see this one. I really like my sleep!

Last October the third installment came out. This one about the 2 sisters when they were little. In 1988 they befriend an invisible entity. This "entity" is what haunts Katie and her sister, Kristi, when they are older.
I actually saw this one and I liked it. It was not as scary as the first one, though.

This year the fourth (and so called "final") installment comes out, Paranormal Activity 4!!!! It's about what happens when Katie and her sister's son (whom she kidnapped in PA2) move to a new house and start messing with the neighbors!! I want to see this, but that means I have to see the 2nd one first!

I guess I'll be sleeping with the lights on!

Couch Searching

When I first moved to Arlington, I moved in with an awesome girl named Jacqueline. I met her through my mom who knew one of Jacq's co-workers. We lived together until the end of July this year. The biggest thing about our apartment was that we did not have any living room furniture! So, now that I have my own place I am in search of a couch! Now, I live in a studio apartment now, so I am slightly limited to the amount of space I have. It's a super cute apartment and I actually have a good amount of space. My beautiful bedroom furniture fits wonderfully. I also have two book shelves and a storage bench. The two things that I feel like I need now is a small table to put by my window and a couch. What I'd really like is an over sized sofa chair. I went to Value City and Bob's Discount Furniture today and found a couple things that I liked ~

This purple Chair 1/2 is my favorite so far! Probably because it's purple :)

This over sized chair has an ottoman that is also storage.

Then there is a love seat. I'm not sure if I have enough space for a love seat, but I think I could make it work!

I also found this table and chairs, it also comes in a darker wood ~

What do you guys think? Have a great Friday!!!
