*5 for 2013*

Well, it's that time of year again.  That time of year when we all decide to make these "resolutions" that we are going to keep to throughout the year.  I remember this one year where I wrote an entire diary entry of things I was going to "resolve" too.  I've learned over the years that it is more realistic to pick a few things rather than a giant list!

I'm linking up with Jessica and Jen for today's "5 for 2013."

I guess we should look at last week's goals first, right? ... ~

1. I will complete the "About Me" tab on my blog - Yeah, I didn't get to this.  I'm going to blame my Upper Respiratory Infection.  I'm going to try to get this done before going back to work!
2. Start thinking of New Year's Resolutions - Here they are!!!
3. Make a Hair Appointment -I have not called my hair girl yet.
4. Clean My Apartment - I am actually going to do this today!  I took down all my Christmas decorations last night and today, before celebrating the old and ringing in the new, I will clean my apartment!
5. Christmas Thank You's - I did do these and they will be mailed out today! WooHoo!

~ 3 for 5, not bad!!!!  Okay, here are my 5 New Year's Resolutions for 2013 ~

1. Get out of my debt!
I am so close and this year, 2013, I am going to do it.  I have a plan and I'm sticking to it!
2.  I will hit my Goal Weight!
I have joined Weight Watchers.  I have realized (mostly admitted to myself) that my biggest problem is food.  I have no willpower over delicious foods.  I have been to 2 meetings so far and I am really liking it.  I really think WW will help and I will finally get down to my goal weight!
3.  Twice a month I will try a new recipe.
With Weight Watchers you get a bunch of new recipes all the time.  Not only will this be really good for my waist line, but it will also help me learn to cook a little bit more!
4.  I will hit 100 followers.
Now, I know that I don't really have control over this one, but I know that I can do it!  I started this little blog (inspired by my bestie and her blog Pursuit of Pink) back in September and I am heading into 2013 with 41 followers.  I have no doubt that I can reach 59 more fabulous people!
5.  I will read 2 books a month (24 this year).
I'm in a book club, so that guarantees a certain amount of books to be read.  I also have quite a few books that I haven't read that I would like to.  I'm going into the New Year reading Little Women. I have a huge fan of the Winona Ryder movie, but have never read the book.  I have 2 weeks to read this massive (560 pages) book.  Let's get reading!

Well, there you have it.  My Resolutions for 2013.  What are yours?

********HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Social

Welcome to the last Sunday of 2012.

I'm linking up with Ashley (Ashley's Carnival Ride) and Neely (A Complete Waste of Makeup) for today's "New Year's Eve" Sunday Social.  This is also my first Sunday Social and I'm very excited to be a part of it!

Sunday Social

This week's questions are all in regards to the New Year ~

1. What is the best New Year's Ever you've ever had?
I think for me, my best New Year's was back in college, NYE 2003.  A sorority sister of mine threw this amazing party at her parent's house in VA Beach.  So many of my friends went.  It was super formal, so we all got to dress up to the nines!  There was a dinner buffet around 10pm and a breakfast buffet around 2 am!  We had such a great time!

2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?
As of right now I still don't know what I'm doing tomorrow night.  I'm still getting over my upper respiratory infection and on my antibiotic.  It might end up being a lounge night.  Maybe I'll pop over to a bar for a drink at midnight to watch the ball drop and then come back home.

3. Name a book we could all read, come January.
I would highly recommend Gone Girl.  I finished it on Friday (stayed up until 3am reading!).  This book is so hard to put down and it keeps you going!  Definitely put this on your reading list for 2013.

4. What are some New Year's resolutions?
You will have to stop by tomorrow for the "5 for 5" link up!  Tomorrow is "5 for 2013." Plus, that gives me time to narrow down my giant list to 5!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! See you tomorrow!

*The last 2012 High Five for Friday*

Happy Friday everyone!  Today came so quickly.  I have been home for a week and am finally well enough to head back to Northern Virginia.  I love coming home and visiting with my mom and dad.  My brother was in Park City working, so he wasn't able to spend Christmas with us, but he was with us in spirit!

I am linking up with Lauren, From My Grey Desk, for today's High Five for Friday.

Since today is the last Friday of the year, I thought that I would do a High 5 for 2012.

1. When I moved back in 2011 I was working for Thompson Hotels.  In April of this year the hotel I was working at was bought by Kimpton Hotels.  I was lucky enough to be able to stay on with the company.  In November of this year I received a promotion from Assistant Front Office Manager at Donovan House to Catering Sales and Service Manager at The Rouge. I am loving my new job and am so happy that the opportunity came along!
"All Things Red" is the story of the Rouge  - I fit in well with my red hair!

2. When I moved here in April 2011 I moved in with Jacq.  In August of this year we split off and got our own places.  Jacq and I still see each other and hang out, but I love having my own apartment.  It's a small studio, but it's all mine!  I live on the 14th floor and have an amazing view of Washington DC.
This is the view from my apartment window!

3. In May of this year my mom and I traveled to New York City!  We had an amazing time and it was quite the adventure.  We took the train up (got off at the wrong stop...sorry mom!) and walked all over the city.  We took a double decker tour of the city...we are still bummed we missed out on Brooklyn, but we'll tackle that next time!  We got to see Anything Goes and absolutely loved it!  New York was a blast!
This show was so much fun.  They tap dancing just amazed me!

4. For my 29th Birthday, yes that means I turn 30 in 2013, mom surprised me with tickets to see Kelly Clarkson in concert!  SHE WAS AWESOME! We had so much fun.  I would totally see her in concert again.  Mom and I had a blast.  While she was in town we also explored Old Town Alexandria.  We love it down there!
Me & Mom at Jiffy Lube Live for the concert!

5. In April of this year (April 19th to be exact) I celebrated my 1 year anniversary of having moved back to the East Coast.  Living in Los Angeles was fun, but I'm so happy to be back where I am closer to my good friends and family.

I hope everyone is taking the time to appreciate the wonderful moments they have had over the past year.  I am grateful for everything that happened, but am also very much looking forward to a new year and new possibilities ahead!

Happy New Year!

Wednesday Walkabout!

Happy Wednesday everyone!  This is my first Wednesday Walkabout..woohoo!

I'm linking up with Jane who blogs over at Adventures to Taingamala for today's Walkabout.

How was everyone's Christmas?  Were you a good little girl or boy and did you get some awesome stuff from Santa?  Do you want to see what I got?  Check it out!

My awesome stocking stuffers...
1.  Mom found a bottle of wine called "WTF!!!" at the store.  So awesome!  And it's a Pinot Noir!
2.  I got a couple gift cards...one for Subway and another for Starbucks.  Perfect!
3. Dad got me a Vanity Fair magazine.  It has Kate Moss on the cover, but inside is an article about "Downton Abbey."  I love this show!  It starts January 6th!!!!!
4.  Some much needed vaseline chapstick was also in my stocking.

My Christmas presents...
1. Ever since I was 11 years old I have been collecting Madame Alexander Dolls.  Every year Santa brings me a new one.  This year Santa brought me a "Wendy Loves Cheer Bear" doll. Every doll has a story behind it from my live.  When I was a little I had a Care Bear Cheer doll.  The Wendy doll is so sweet and so cute! (I am not going to be the crazy lady with cats and dolls!)
2.  I also got a digital picture frame!  Mom thought it would be cool to have in my office :)  Love it!
3. There is a company called Spent Rounds Designs.  They make jewelry out of spent rounds, bullets!  Mom got me a pair of earrings and they are really cool.  I can't wait to wear them!
4. Dad got me and mom little pyrex dishes for our soup.  Pyrex is amazing and I love it!  Now I have a sturdy microwavable dish for my soup :)
5.  Mom got me a pair of finger-less/mitten gloves.  They are from Mossimo, which can be bought at Target.  They are a really pretty blue and so soft.  They will definitely keep my fingers warm!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Keep safe and warm!

It's sleeting here in Roanoke.

Drive safe and Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry for the late post, but I'm a little under the weather this Christmas season.  I either have an icky sinus infection or the flu.  I'm leaning toward a sinus infection, but I will be going to the doctor tomorrow!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas.  I hope you are surrounded by family and loved ones.  Did you you get everything you wanted from Santa?

Someone is about to get some pretty wine bottle candle holders...~

Congratulations to....
Lindsay Tolar @ Pursuit of Pink

Well, mom is finishing up making Christmas dinner.  A yummy ham :)

Merry Christmas everyone! xoxoxo

4. Stretch in the morning -   I did stretch, but not as much as I wanted too...half-sies on this one.

I did pretty good this week! Yay!
For next week...~
1. I will complete the "About Me" tab on my blog - I should probably put a little something about me in there!
2. Start thinking of New Year's Resolutions - I usually come up with a HUGE list, but I've learned from my new boss to be more realistic with things like this.  So, I will come up with 2 or 3.
3.Make a Hair Appointment - I need a hair cut, bad!  I think the last one I had was back in August!
4. Clean My Apartment - My little studio could us a good cleaning!  I think I will actually do this on New Year's Eve.  Ring in the new year with a nice clean apartment!

Well, that's my list for the last week of December!!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Tomorrow I will announce the winner of my Holiday Giveaway!

*High 5 for Friday*

Saying Good Bye to Gossip Girl

Today's High 5 for Friday is dedicated to the Gossip Girl series finale.

1. The Series Finale of the much adored TV drama Gossip Girl aired this past Monday night.  Bestie and I had a pizza party, gift exchange, and some wine while we said goodbye to S, B, & Lonely Boy.

2.  Chuck and Blair finally tie the knot!!!!! WooHoo! It took them long enough to get together!

3.  We meet Henry Bass, son of Blair and Chuck....so cute!

4.  Serena and Lonely Boy, aka Dan Humphrey, get married!!!!  So many relationships!  Of course she ends up with Lonely Boy

5. And finally, the identity of Gossip Girl is revealed to be the one, the only....
****DAN HUMPHREY!!!!!!!!

Bestie and I were in total shock when we found out it was Dan.  I was completely convinced that it was Jenny this whole time!

I really want to read the books now, because I want to see if Dan is the real Gossip Girl (if you know, don't tell me).  See, in the books, Chuck actually dies!  They didn't kill him off in the tv series!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend...Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!!!

xoxo ~ *e*

I link up with Lauren who blogs over at From My Grey Desk for her awesome High Five For Friday post. Go check out her blog and see some of the other bloggers who link up - its so fun!

Fa La La La La Friday

This is my first Fa La La La La Friday!

I though since it was the Friday before Christmas that I would post some of my favorite Christmas music for all to see/hear :)

When I was in high school I was a huge 'NSYNC  fan.  My parents bought me tickets and drove me to Columbus, OH to see their Pop Odessy tour!!!  Here is their Christmas hit, "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays."

I have always loved the "Santa Baby " song.  Kylie Minogue has a great version.  Check it out!

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!

*Holiday Giveaway*

I realize that Christmas is in 5 days (eek! I still have shopping to do) and most parties will have already happened, but New Year's is coming and anyways....

Who Doesn't Love A Giveaway?!?!?!

My good friend, Jacq...my fellow wine-o, has started turning used wine bottles into really pretty candle holders.

In honor of the holiday season I want to give 1 lucky winner a pair of these super cute wine bottle candle holders.  I will announce the Winner on Christmas Day!  I will make sure you get them by New Years!

*Shabby Apple*

I woke up yesterday morning to an awesome email from Shabby Apple.  They have asked me to be an affiliate for their website!!!!  This is what they wrote to me:

" We love your website and really like your content and its focus on women."

Love It!
If you're not familiar with the women's clothing website, here is a little blurb from Shabby Apple:

At Shabby Apple, we believe in both femininity and feminism. As feminine women, we create clothing that is artful in design and crafted with a vintage-style flare. Each piece is carefully constructed to both flatter a women’s figure and maintain her mystery. As feminists, we created a company that is women-owned and operated and that donates to help other women start their own businesses. With our old-fashioned style and modern ideals, we believe the best is yet to come!

Shabby Apple has some beautiful clothes ~

Andes Skirt

Corridor Dress

Emerald Pool Bathing Suit

Fruitful Maternity Dress

This is a clothing site for women that I highly recommend.  Their clothes are complimentary to any figure.  Not only do they have clothing, but they have jewlery and accessories, arts & crafts, and beauty.  There is a button on the lower right of my site that you can click on and it will take you right to their website.

Let's Start Shopping!!!

Let it Snow-man!

I clearly have a problem.  But it's a good problem.  I have noticed, this Holiday season, that I have an obsession with snowmen.  I realized it while I was doing laundry this weekend.  I have a pair of socks that have cute little snowmen on them.  Then I got to thinking, what else do I have.  Well, let's see...

Here are the cute socks!

My snowmen pajama bottoms I got for Christmas last year.

The snowman on the left is a stocking holder and the one on the right is just cute!

These are my Hallmark snowmen.  When you press the button they sing and dance.

I have 13 snowmen on my tree!

He's so cute!!!!!!!

*Another 5 for 5 Monday*

Happy Monday everyone.  How was everyone's weekend?  Mine was quite enjoyable.  I got my first contract signed at work on Friday and then Saturday I helped a friend celebrate her 30th birthday!

How was your week?  Mine was good, but I didn't hit all of my goals...just 1.5! Here's how I did ~

1. No Diet Coke...this didn't happen at all! The only day that I had 0 diet coke was yesterday.
2. Week 1 of No Alcohol...I didn't go the entire week without drinking, but drank much less than I have been!  I had some celebratory wine on Friday, after getting my first event contract signed, and I had drinks at my friend's birthday party last night.  So, I'm going to go "half-sies" on this one.
3. I am hitting up Zumba ...I went home after work.  No gym this week :(
4. I will read 50 pages in my book,  Gone Girl...I didn't read 50 pages, I read 100  pages!  This book is sooo good and I have a hard time putting it down!  In fact, I will be reading more after I finish this post.
5.  I will get my Christmas cards sent out this week!...I am hoping to get them out by Wednesday. Sorry everyone if your card is a little late.

~ Here are my goals for this week ~

1.  Working out 3 days this week - I am trying out a new gym routine and I hope it works :)  I will give more details next week.
2.  No Diet Coke - I'm going to try this again!
3.  Finish up my Christmas shopping - I know exactly what I'm getting, just need to get it!
4. Stretch in the morning -   I had a charlie horse in my leg Saturday night and boy did it hurt!  I read that stretching in the morning is highly recommended, so I'm going to start doing that.
5. I am not going to spend extra money - Besides my Christmas shopping, I am not going to spend any extra money.

Alrightie!  Let's hope it's a better week :)

Happy Monday everyone...

*I'm linking up today with Jessica and Jenn for today's 5 for 5*

To My Dad

In the year 1955 David was born.

I think he's about 4 years old in the picture, sitting on his dad's lap.

In the late 70's he met this girl and they fell in love...
This is my dad biting my mom's thumb!  And people wonder where my craziness comes from ;-)

They got married in 1978 and 5 years later I was born.
Dad looks so happy!  I don't!  In this picture is my grandma Gracie, my dad's grandma, dad, and me.
The Generation Photo

Then I was baptized...
Look at my dad rockin' the 70s hair and chic shades!  So Don Johnson of him!

This is my all time favorite photo of me and my dad.  I have it in a frame in my room still today.  This is at my Aunt Alexis's wedding.

This is me and dad now...

My dad's a pretty awesome dude!  He loves his family with all of his heart and would do pretty much anything for them.  I have a lot of traits that I get from him...talk loud on the phone, can't stand not having control, crinkly sounds of wrappers...just to name a few.  But he's a goofy guy with a big heart!

One of the funniest things about my dad is his 30 minute projects that turn into 3 days, 3 weeks...you get the idea!  They always end up...well, like this...Tim Taylor Slip Ups.

I love you dad!  Thanks being an awesome dad!!!!!!!

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

I had a bit of a "day" yesterday and really needed a laugh.  The question is...

Can you find me...?

2 people that have turned my blog around!

Person #1 ~ Kaylee Hornsby

As most of you can probably tell, my blog got a little bit of a face lift recently!

Thank you to Kaylee Hornsby!  She blogs over at All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Kaylee had started following my blog and emailed me about possibly designing my blog for me.  I was totally stoked!  I had been thinking about getting it designed sometime next year, but when Kaylee suggested she do it (for an amazing price) I jumped at the chance!

Kaylee sent me to a website to pick out some color schemes and also send her some pictures.  I sent her my about me blurb and she put it together!  She did an awesome job and I couldn't be happier!  If you are interested in getting your blog, or any site, designed you should definitely talk to Kaylee!

Person #2 ~ Jacqueline Coleman

Back in October, I dedicated a post to my former roommate, Jacq.  What you guys don't know, is that Jacq dabbles in photography.  When Kaylee approached me about my blog she asked for some pictures.  I didn't have any recent pictures!  So, I called up Jacq to see if she wanted to do a little photo shoot.  One Saturday we headed into Washington, DC and took some pictures over by the Lincoln Memorial around sunset.  It was so pretty and we got some great shots!  The ones below are some of my favorite...

A big thank you to Kaylee and Jacqueline.  They are amazing!!!!!

To get in touch with Kaylee, just visit her blog (link above).  If you're in the DC/NOVA area and want to get in touch with Jacqueline, just leave me a comment!

Happy 5 for 5 Monday!

Happy Monday!  How was everyone's weekend? Mine was pretty relaxed.  I hung out with some girlfriends each night.  What did you do?

I am linking up with Jessica @ Fantastically Average and Jenn @ Party of One for today's post!

How was your week?  Here is how mine was...not sooo great (goal wise)...!

1. Exercise 3 days this week...I didn't do this at all.  I have no good excuse.  My mother is watching! I just have to try harder next week!
2. Read 2 chapters in Little Women...I kept leaving this book in my gym bag (which was in my car because I never went to the gym).  So, I started reading my next book club book Gone Girl and I am hooked!  Little Women will have to wait!
3.  Purchase all of my Christmas Presents...this did not happen.  I will take care of this!
4.  Close my crappy bank account...I DID IT!!! Breaking up is hard to do, but I did it!
5.  Try a yoga class...I didn't do this.  I planned on it (as I did the rest of the gym), but it didn't happen.

Well, 1 out of 5 aint bad! haha...IT IS REALLY BAD!

Okay...for this week I really plan on doing GREAT!

1. No Diet Coke...for those of you that REALLY know me, you know that this is going to be a big challenge.  I did not have any diet coke on Sunday.  I have a lot of Vitamin Water Zero to substitute.
2. Week 1 of No Alcohol...yes, this is a MASSIVE one!  My old roommate and I were talking about this tonight, actually.  I need to stop turning to my favorite pinot noir when I have had a long day.  A green tea or hot chocolate should be good enough.
3. I am hitting up Zumba on Wednesday night at 7pm.
4. I will read 50 pages in my book,  Gone Girl.  I dont think this will be hard to do.  I am pretty sucked in already!
5.  I will get my Christmas cards sent out this week!  I just need to get stamps!

Good luck to everyone!

High 5 for Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  I could not be happier that the weekend is here. I am just absolutely exhausted!  I am linking up with Lauren, From My Grey Desk, for todays High 5.
How was everyone's week?  Here's a recap of mine ...

1. I have finished my 2nd week at my new job and I am loving it!  I'm still getting used to the morning hours, but am getting better.  There are a few things I need to tweak in my evening time at home, but I'll get there!  Here are a couple pictures for you:
This is the view from my office window.  My hotel has Venus statues ouside, so I get a view of her butt and accross the street a church!

I have never had my very own desk before! I can decorate it any way that I want.  I have a couple pictures up now, but need a few more things to personalize my space!

2. I got to see my Bestie this week.  It had been a little while since we'd seen each other. Lindsay took me to see The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart.  It's a show from the National Theatre of Scotland   The tagline is... "Sometimes you need to go to hell and back to find true love."  It was a really cool show.  It is performed in a bar and is somewhat interactive.  It was a lot of fun!

3. I also got to hang out with some other friends, Stephanie and Jim.  I went over to their house and Stephanie made dinner.  It was really nice to chill out and unwind with friends.  They introduced me to a new show called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It is produced by Jerry Seinfeld and he's the star.  The concept is that he calls up his comedian buddies and they get coffee, breakfast, lunch, whatever.  Sometimes the show is 15 minutes, sometimes it's longer. It's really funny and you should check it out.  It comes on a network called Crackle.  It's similar to Hulu.

Here he is, below, with Ricky Gervais.  I bet this is a funny episode!

4. I participated in a Nail Polish swap!  There was some confusion with the post date and then there were some mail mishaps! I tried to post it on Wednesday, but my phone was being dumb with my pictures!  Here is what Aryn, posts at A Pretty Poppy, sent me ~
haha...yeah, the foot picture is a little ghetto :)  The colors are Play Til Midnight (left) and Canberrat Without You (right).  I love both colors so much!!!!!  She also sent me a tiny little bottle of a Sally Girl polish in the color of a hot pink. Thanks Aryn!

5. Last night the fire alarm went off in my building.  I live on the 14th floor!  I walked down the stairs and outside to see 5 fire trucks, an ambulance, and several emergency vehicles.  I met a new friend while standing in the cold; both of us in clothes we would rather not be seen in public wearing.  It turns out that someone on my floor burnt their popcorn and when they opened their apartment floor to air it out, all of the alarms went off!  Crazy people!
Here are 3 of the fire trucks and a random neighbor of mine (not my new friend).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

until next time *erica*
